Office Chair Size
The size of an office chair typically includes seat height, width, depth, backrest height, and other key parameters, with specific standard ranges as follows:

Seat height is a core parameter affecting sitting comfort, usually ranging from 40 cm to 50 cm. Fixed-height office chairs mostly have seat heights concentrated between 40 and 45 cm, but to accommodate people of different heights, adjustable models are recommended, with a typical adjustment range of 38 to 48 cm. When considering gender differences, the suitable seat height for men is 410 to 430 mm, while for women, it is 390 to 410 mm. This difference is mainly based on the average difference in lower limb lengths between men and women in ergonomics, ensuring that feet can rest flat on the ground and thighs are parallel to the ground, avoiding leg suspension or compression due to improper height.
Seat width directly affects the freedom of sitting posture, with a standard range of 45 cm to 55 cm. This dimension needs to provide sufficient lateral movement space for the hips and thighs while avoiding excessive width that may cause body leaning or insufficient support. For users with wider body types or those who need to frequently operate sideways, it is advisable to choose models with a width of over 50 cm.
Seat depth should match the length of the thighs, usually ranging from 35 cm to 45 cm. If the depth is too shallow, the back of the thighs will lack support; if it is too deep, it may compress the blood vessels and nerves behind the knees. In terms of gender differences, the suitable depth for men is 400 to 420 mm, and for women, it is 380 to 400 mm. This design ensures that the back naturally fits against the backrest while maintaining a gap of about a fist's width between the knees and the front edge of the seat.
Backrest height should cover the support area from the waist to the shoulders. Medium-height backrest office chairs usually do not exceed the waist position. When considering gender differences, the suitable backrest height for men is 410 to 420 mm, and for women, it is 390 to 400 mm. If neck support is needed, models with adjustable headrests can be chosen, with a total height of up to 120 cm, suitable for long hours of desk work or scenarios where leaning back for rest is required.
Among other parameters, the recommended backrest tilt angle is between 98ยฐ and 102ยฐ, which can disperse spinal pressure and is suitable for both men and women. In addition, the armrest height should be level with or slightly lower than the desktop to avoid shrugging; the chair wheels should be selected according to the floor material (e.g., hard wheels for hard floors and soft wheels for carpets) to reduce movement resistance.
When purchasing, it is advisable to try sitting first and adjust each parameter to a personal comfortable state, while also referring to ergonomic certification standards (such as BIFMA certification) to ensure long-term health and durability of use.
