Issues with Sitting on an Office Chair

Admin October 12, 2026

Issues with sitting on an office chair may be caused by the lifting rod sliding down or the chair being too slippery, and need to be addressed according to the specific cause.

Problems with the Lifting Rod Sliding Down

Causes:

  1. Chronic air leakage in the pneumatic rod: Insufficient air pressure causes the chair to automatically descend, which is common in chairs that have been used for a long time.
  2. Component damage: Cracks or deformations in the tray or pneumatic rod due to long-term use or external impact, leading to loss of support.
  3. Poor quality of the pneumatic rod: Low-priced or non-standard brand pneumatic rods have thin materials and rough workmanship, making them prone to air leakage or structural instability.

Solutions:

  • Contact after-sales or repair services: If within the warranty period, directly contact the seller or manufacturer to replace the lifting rod; after the warranty expires, consult for paid repair services or professional inspection and repair.
  • Temporary emergency measures: Place hard objects such as bricks or wooden blocks under the lifting rod, ensuring the padding is stable to avoid the risk of tipping.
  • Replace with a new chair: If the chair has been used for many years and the repair cost is high, it is recommended to choose a reliable brand, prioritizing the inspection of certification marks on the pneumatic rod (such as SGS and BIFMA certifications).

Problems with the Chair Being Too Slippery

Causes:

  1. Design flaws: Smooth seat surface materials (such as plastic or synthetic leather) or insufficient friction between the chair legs and the floor (such as on tiles or wooden floors).
  2. Improper fixation of the seat cushion: Displacement of the seat cushion leads to instability in the center of gravity, or the sitting posture does not match the chair (such as leaning forward).

Solutions:

  • Increase seat surface friction:
    • Choose seat cushions with silicone particles, non-slip dotted plastic, or rubber textures, and match them with rattan mats (for summer), memory foam (for winter), or fleece (for general use) according to the season.
    • Fix the seat cushion using strap-style, hook/buckle-style methods, or attach it with double-sided adhesive magic tape (choose tape that does not leave marks).
  • Modify the chair legs or floor:
    • Install non-slip foot pads/covers, prioritizing those with slightly raised rubber particles on the inside and thickened edges on the outside; bow-shaped frame foot pads can grip round or square tube chair legs.
    • Lay non-slip floor mats in the chair's activity area, with silicone particles and natural rubber textures on the bottom.
    • Make chair leg covers from thick cloth, adding a waterproof cloth layer inside to enhance non-slip and sound-dampening effects.
  • Adjust sitting posture and chair settings:
    • Adjust the seat height so that both feet are flat on the ground and the thighs are parallel to the ground, maintaining a stable center of gravity.
    • Add a lumbar support to support the natural curve of the spine, reducing the tendency to lean forward in search of support.
