Office Chair Sinking Repair
Office chair sinking can be resolved through temporary fixation or replacement of the gas cylinder. Here are the specific methods:

I. Temporary Fixation Solutions (Suitable for Emergency Use)
Hose Clamp Fixation Method
Slide the chair's plastic skirt to the bottom of the cylinder and adjust the seat to the desired height. Wrap the cylinder with a hose clamp (or metal hose clamp). To enhance friction, you can first wrap rubber bands or electrical tape around the cylinder's surface. Tighten the clamp and test for stability to ensure the seat no longer sinks. This method is low-cost but may fail over time due to continuous gas leakage from the cylinder.PVC Pipe Reinforcement Method
Measure the diameter and length of the cylinder and select a PVC pipe with an inner diameter slightly smaller than the cylinder (it should fit tightly). Cut the PVC pipe lengthwise, place it around the cylinder, and secure it with tape. This method achieves fixation by physically restricting the cylinder's expansion and contraction. However, it requires regular inspection for pipe looseness and does not restore the chair's height adjustment function.
II. Comprehensive Repair Solution (Replacing the Gas Cylinder)
Fault Diagnosis
- Slow Sinking: Often caused by slow gas leakage inside the gas cylinder, possibly due to aging seals or tiny cracks.
- Rapid Drop: May be due to damage to the black tray controlling the height adjustment or severe failure of the internal valve in the gas cylinder.
- Abnormal Noises: Continuous hissing during height adjustment indicates gas leakage; stuttering may be due to piston dust accumulation or insufficient lubrication.
- External Inspection: Invert the chair and check for loose screws at the connections between the gas cylinder, five-star base, and seat bottom plate. Observe the black height adjustment tray for cracks or deformation.
Steps for Replacing the Gas Cylinder
- Removing the Old Part: Invert the chair onto a soft pad and evenly tap the metal base at the connection between the gas cylinder and the five-star base with a rubber mallet to loosen it. If tapping is ineffective, use a pipe wrench to grip the gas cylinder (pad with cloth to prevent scratches) and turn it counterclockwise to unscrew it.
- Installing the New Part: Align the new gas cylinder with the hole in the five-star base and insert it, ensuring a snug fit. Align the seat bottom plate with the top of the gas cylinder, secure it with screws, and tighten them.
- Testing Functionality: Adjust the seat height to check for smooth height adjustment and confirm there is no gas leakage or abnormal noises before regular use.
Tip: If you lack repair tools or experience, it is recommended to contact a professional to replace the gas cylinder to avoid damaging the chair's structure. Long-term use of temporary fixation solutions may accelerate cylinder wear and necessitate comprehensive repair as soon as possible.
