Office Chair Side Repair

Admin October 11, 2026

Repairing the side tilt of an office chair requires troubleshooting the cause step by step and addressing it accordingly. Here are the specific methods:

  1. Check the wheel condition
Place the chair upright and upside down, and observe whether the wheels are level when they touch the ground. If the wheel feet are bent, deformed, or damaged (such as a broken axle or worn rubber wheels), it can cause the chair to be unevenly stressed and tilt. In this case, purchase new wheels that match the original model for replacement, ensuring that all wheels are at the same height and rotate smoothly. If the wheel clips are loose, reinstall them and confirm that the clips are fully inserted into the base sockets.

  2. Check the floor levelness
If the wheels are in good condition but the chair still tilts, check whether the floor where the chair is placed is level. Uneven floors (such as carpet wrinkles or loose tiles) can force the wheels to be at different heights, causing a tilting problem. Move the chair to a hard, flat surface for testing. If the tilt disappears, adjust the floor or use a chair pad for balance.

  3. Check the seat panel structure
If both the wheels and the floor are normal, check whether the seat panel is loose or deformed. When the connecting screws between the seat panel and the chair frame are loose, the seat panel may tilt due to uneven stress. In this case, use a screwdriver to tighten all the connecting screws. If the seat panel itself has dents or cracks due to long-term use (such as a deformed wooden seat panel or a broken plastic seat panel), replace it with a new one that matches the original model to ensure a tight fit between the seat panel and the chair frame.

  4. Lubricate the base sockets
Spray silicone-based lubricant on the connection between the chair base and the wheel feet to reduce friction. When reinstalling the wheel feet, press firmly to ensure that the clips are fully inserted into the sockets and test whether they rotate smoothly in all directions. If the wheel feet are not installed properly, it may cause the chair to tilt or have stuck rotation.

  5. Balance test and professional repair
Place the chair on a hard, flat surface and gently press on each corner to check for wobbling. If the tilt persists, it may be due to deformation of the internal springs or supports in the base (such as a tilted gas lift or a bent metal support). In this case, contact a professional repair technician to disassemble the base and replace the damaged parts. Non-professionals attempting to disassemble it themselves may cause safety hazards such as gas lift explosions.

Precautions: Before operation, turn off the gas lift adjustment function (if any) to avoid sudden popping and injury. When replacing parts, it is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact the manufacturer for model information to ensure compatibility.
