Office Chair Side Button

Admin October 10, 2026

The functions of office chair side buttons vary depending on the design, with common features including seat height adjustment, tilt angle adjustment, seat locking/unlocking, backrest angle adjustment, and other parameter fine-tuning.

Seat height adjustment is one of the common functions of office chair side buttons. Some office chairs have a button on the left side designed to control the up and down movement of the seat. Users simply need to press this button, and the seat will rise or fall according to their needs, adapting to the body types and work habits of users of different heights. This design helps maintain proper sitting posture and reduces physical fatigue caused by improper seat height.

The tilt angle adjustment function is achieved by holding down the button and moving the seat forward or backward. Users can adjust the front-to-back tilt angle of the seat according to their personal comfort needs. This adjustment method helps disperse body pressure and enhances comfort during prolonged sitting, making it particularly suitable for users who need to work at a desk for extended periods.

The seat locking/unlocking function is controlled by the pressing state of the button. When pressed and held, the seat is locked to prevent shaking during use, ensuring stability; while holding the button allows the seat to be unlocked and returned to an adjustable state. This function is especially practical when the seat position needs to be fixed, such as during delicate operations or writing.

The backrest angle adjustment function is usually achieved through a knob or lever on the side. Users can rotate or move these components to adjust the angle between the backrest and the seat base, obtaining more tailored lumbar support. This design helps relieve lumbar pressure and prevents discomfort in the lower back caused by prolonged sitting.

The other parameter fine-tuning function is more commonly found in high-end office chair models. The side knobs on these chairs may support adjusting the lumbar support intensity or tilt tension, allowing users to make fine adjustments according to their personal needs for the best sitting experience. For example, the adjustment knobs on Herman Miller Aeron chairs are concentrated on the left or right side of the seat, controlling the forward and backward tilt angles and resistance to meet the personalized needs of different users.

Button positions vary depending on the design and may be located on the left side of the seat, on the side, or integrated into the armrest. Users can refer to the product manual or observe the button markings before use to accurately understand their functions.
