Office Chair Side Broken
Admin October 11, 2026
The repair of a broken side of an office chair requires selecting an appropriate solution based on the broken material and structural type, as follows:

I. Fracture of Wood/Composite Materials
- Adhesive Reinforcement
Apply woodworking glue or strong epoxy evenly to the broken surfaces, align them, and secure with clamps to ensure the adhesive fully penetrates the gaps. The curing time for epoxy is usually 24 hours, during which the broken surfaces must remain tightly fitted to prevent misalignment. - Screw Reinforcement
Drill holes (with a diameter slightly smaller than the screw) in the connected area after adhesive application, and install wood screws or metal screws. The screws should penetrate the broken layer and enter the undamaged part by 2-3 centimeters to enhance structural stability. If the broken surface is large, install 2-3 screws in a cross pattern. - Color Restoration
Mix pigments to match the original paint and cover the screw surfaces and surrounding areas. For solid wood, use the โgrain-tracingโ technique to mimic the wood grain direction, lightly tracing the broken area with a fine brush dipped in pigment to blend the repair marks naturally with the original material.
II. Damage to Soft Materials (Leather/Fabric)
- Flatten the Damaged Surface
Gently press the edges of the damage with a plastic scraper or hard card to trim frayed edges and prevent further tearing. If fibers are exposed at the damaged area, trim them neatly along the edges with scissors to avoid entanglement and expansion of the damage. - Filling and Sanding
Apply a specialized filler (such as leather repair paste), and after drying, sand with 800-grit or finer sandpaper until smooth. The filler should be applied in layers, with each layer no thicker than 1 millimeter, to ensure a bump-free surface after drying. - Spray Coating
Select a coating that matches the original material in color and gloss, and spray in short bursts from multiple layers, with an interval of 10-15 minutes between layers. Keep the spray can perpendicular to the surface and about 20 centimeters away during spraying to avoid runs or color differences.
III. Structural Tilt Leading to Fracture
- Inspect Casters and Floor
Check if the casters are deformed, broken, or stuck with foreign objects, and ensure the floor is level. If the casters are damaged, replace them with the same model to avoid uneven force distribution caused by using casters of different specifications. - Lubricate Base Sockets
Spray silicone-based lubricant on the connecting parts, and when reinstalling the casters, ensure the clips are fully engaged in the sockets. The lubricant reduces friction between metal parts to prevent structural fractures caused by jamming. - Balance Test
Place the chair on a hard, flat surface and gently press each corner to observe for wobbling. If it still tilts, the internal springs or supports in the base may be deformed, and professional repair personnel should be contacted to replace the internal components. Avoid disassembling it yourself to prevent secondary damage.
Operation Tips: Clean the damaged area before repair and wear gloves to avoid cuts; for precious materials, test the repair effect on a small area first. If the fracture is caused by product quality issues (such as material defects or manufacturing process problems), the seller may be liable for compensation under the Civil Code of the People's Republic of China.
