Office Chair Short Legs Solution
Solutions for short legs on office chairs can be implemented based on the actual situation, and an appropriate method should be chosen:

Use dedicated furniture height-increasing foot pads This is the most recommended method. Height-increasing foot pads are usually made of rubber, silicone, or high-strength plastic. They come with adhesive backing or can be directly slipped onto the chair legs, requiring no tools for installation. Their core advantage is that they can raise the entire chair by 2-5 centimeters, effectively solving most problems caused by insufficient seat height, such as feet not being able to touch the ground firmly and restricted blood circulation. In addition, these foot pads are slip-resistant, wear-resistant, and quiet, protecting wooden floors or tiles from scratches. They have wide adaptability and are suitable for most office settings.
Use adjustable threaded foot pads If the ground is uneven (such as with local depressions or protrusions) and it is necessary to adjust the height of a single chair leg individually, adjustable threaded foot pads can be used. They precisely control the height of a single foot pad by rotating the threaded structure at the bottom, achieving a completely level chair. These foot pads are mostly made of sturdy materials like stainless steel, with strong load-bearing capacity and slip-resistant textures at the bottom. They are suitable for solving complex ground problems, especially in environments with high stability requirements.
Use temporary substitute materials When no dedicated tools are available, folded thick cardboard, coins, plastic bottle caps, or old books can be used to temporarily raise the short legs. However, this method has obvious drawbacks: the materials are prone to sliding, flattening, or wearing out, with poor stability, and may scratch the floor. It is only recommended as an emergency measure. Long-term use may exacerbate the problem or pose safety hazards.
Repair the chair legs themselves If it is determined that the chair legs are of unequal lengths, they can be repaired in two ways:
- Raise the short legs: Use dedicated foot pads or cut wooden or rubber pads of appropriate thickness and glue them to the bottom of the short legs, ensuring the materials are firm and flat.
- Sand the long legs: Using the chair seat as a reference, sand the longer legs with an angle grinder or 80-grit sandpaper until all four legs are of equal length. Be patient during the operation to avoid over-sanding, which can cause the chair to wobble.
Prevention advice: When purchasing office chairs, short individuals (such as those under 160cm) should pay attention to the seat height adjustment range and prioritize chairs whose minimum seat height can meet their needs (for example, some models can be adjusted to as low as 42cm, suitable for people around 150cm) to avoid short leg problems from the source.
