Short-Legged Office Chair Solutions

Admin October 11, 2026

If the legs of your office chair are too short, you can resolve the issue with the following methods:

  1. Use Height-Increasing Pads/Footrests
This is the most direct and universal solution. Choose specialized furniture height-increasing pads or footrests, typically made of non-slip, wear-resistant rubber, plastic, or metal, with suction cups or non-slip textures at the bottom to effectively raise the chair's height and maintain stability. Common height-increasing pads can elevate the chair by 2 to 5 centimeters, with some products even reaching 8 to 12 centimeters. Installation is often tool-free and suitable for most types of chairs, including wooden chairs and metal-framed chairs. If the chair's height is insufficient, causing your legs to hang in the air, this method can quickly alleviate fatigue.

  2. Adjust the Chair's Original Mechanism
Some office chairs, bar stools, or car seats come with built-in height adjustment features. Check underneath or on the side of the chair for manual knobs, levers, pull rods, or electric adjustment switches, and follow the product instructions to adjust the height. For example, pneumatic lift chairs usually adjust up and down by pressing the adjustment lever beneath the seat, without the need for additional accessories. If the adjustment function fails, further inspection of the pneumatic rod or mechanical structure is required.

  3. Address Swivel Chair Lift Failure
If a swivel chair fails to lift, it may be due to worn seals on the pneumatic rod, nitrogen leakage, or blockage by debris. In this case, replace the pneumatic rod with one that has SGS certification to ensure safety. Also, check if the base adjustment valve is stuck with foreign objects and confirm that all screws, bolts, and locking mechanisms are secure. For minor sticking, apply a small amount of silicone-based grease to theไผธ็ผฉ (telescoping) part of the pneumatic rod to alleviate the issue.

  4. Resolve Uneven/Wobbly Chair Legs
If the chair wobbles due to an uneven floor or legs of different lengths, use adjustable-height foot pads. These pads adjust the height of individual chair legs by rotating, balancing the chair while also providing silent sliding and floor protection functions. Do not use temporary materials such as paper or hard cards to elevate the chair, as these materials are prone to compression and deformation, exacerbating instability.

  5. Handle Sawed-Off or Broken Chair Legs
If a chair leg is accidentally sawed off or broken, use height-increasing pads as a temporary fix. For broken wooden chair legs, use double-headed nails to connect and reinforce them, or wrap them with specialized table leg shrink wrap and heat to shrink and strengthen the repair. After repairing, test the stability to avoid secondary damage.

  6. Adjust Your Sitting Posture or Replace the Chair
If none of the above methods are applicable, adjust your sitting posture in the short term, such as keeping your feet flat on the ground or using a stable footrest. In the long run, replacing the chair with one of appropriate height is more thorough. For example, petite women can choose the Sihoo VitoS (suitable for heights of 140-165cm) or the Yongyi 200pro (with a seat depth of 45cm and adjustable by 5cm, suitable for women under 160cm in height).
