Office Chair Shock Absorber Oil Leakage

Admin October 09, 2026

The main causes of oil leakage in office chair shock absorbers are internal cleanliness issues, aging of sealing interfaces, abnormal impacts or structural deformation, manufacturing quality problems, and environmental factors. Solutions include cleaning the shock absorber, replacing sealing components, conducting a comprehensive inspection, and seeking professional repair or replacement.

Analysis of Oil Leakage Causes

  1. Internal Cleanliness Issues: If foreign substances such as sand, welding slag, or iron filings enter the internal mechanism, they can accelerate the wear of the oil seal, leading to seal failure. This issue is common in office chairs that have not been maintained for a long time or are used in dusty environments.
  2. Aging of Sealing Interfaces: Due to prolonged use or material aging, the elasticity of the oil seal or sealing ring decreases, making it unable to effectively prevent hydraulic oil leakage. This is one of the common causes of shock absorber oil leakage.
  3. Abnormal Impacts or Structural Deformation: External impacts on the shock absorber (such as the chair being bent by heavy objects) can cause internal structural deformation, reducing sealing performance. Additionally, prolonged overloading can also lead to similar issues.
  4. Manufacturing Quality Issues: During the production process, poor welding, material defects, or assembly errors can result in inadequate sealing of the shock absorber, leading to oil leakage in the early stages of use.
  5. Environmental Factors: Extreme temperatures (such as high-temperature exposure or low-temperature freezing) can accelerate the aging of rubber components, shortening the lifespan of the oil seal and causing oil leakage.

Solutions

  1. Clean the Shock Absorber: If the oil leakage is minor, use a specialized cleaner to remove foreign substances such as sand from the internal mechanism to prevent further wear of the oil seal. Pay attention to the disassembly steps during cleaning to avoid damaging other components.
  2. Replace Sealing Components: Check if the oil seal or sealing ring is worn, cracked, or deformed. If signs of aging are found, immediately replace it with a sealing component of the same specification to restore sealing performance.
  3. Conduct a Comprehensive Inspection: Check other components of the suspension system (such as springs and connecting rods) for looseness or damage to prevent chain reactions caused by local failures.
  4. Seek Professional Repair or Replacement: If the shock absorber structure is severely deformed (such as bending or breaking) or has manufacturing defects (such as poor welding), contact a professional repair shop for handling or directly replace it with a new shock absorber to avoid safety hazards.

Precautions: The shock absorption structure of office chairs differs from that of vehicles such as motorcycles. Exercise caution when handling it yourself. If you lack repair experience, it is advisable to consult professionals first to prevent the fault from worsening due to improper operation.
