Office Chair Shaft Loosening

Admin October 16, 2026

The loosening of an office chair shaft can be addressed through the following steps:

First, identify the location of the loosening, as different parts require different handling methods. If the screws at the connection between the chair shaft and the seat are loose, which is a common issue, prepare an appropriate screwdriver. Carefully check the screw specifications to ensure the screwdriver matches, and then tighten the screws in a clockwise direction to firmly connect the chair shaft and the seat, restoring stability. If the screws are damaged and cannot be used further, purchase new screws of the same specifications for replacement. During replacement, ensure that the new screws match the original ones in terms of size, thread, and other parameters to guarantee accurate and secure installation.

When the screw threads in the screw hole are stripped, do not directly screw in new screws, as this will not provide a secure fix. Find a piece of sharpened small wooden stick or bamboo strip, with a thickness slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw hole. Carefully insert the sharpened end into the screw hole, trying to fill the internal space of the screw hole as much as possible to increase friction. Then, screw in new self-tapping screws of the same specifications. The threads of the self-tapping screws can better engage with the small wooden stick or bamboo strip, achieving a reinforcing effect.

In addition to the connection between the chair shaft and the seat, there are several other common areas of wobbling and loosening on office chairs. If the five-claw base and its connecting screws are loose, use the appropriate tool to tighten the screws. If the gas lift is loose, check its connection points with the seat and the base, and replace relevant parts if necessary. If the connection between the seat and the gas lift is loose, try reinstalling and tightening the fixing screws. If the connection between the armrest and the backrest is loose, first determine whether it is a screw issue or a damaged part. If it is a screw issue, handle it according to the above methods; if it is a damaged part, replace it. If the backrest support structure is loose, carefully inspect each connection point and tighten the loose screws.
