The Shaft of the Office Chair is Loose

Admin October 11, 2026

If the shaft of the office chair is loose, targeted repair measures can be taken according to the different loose parts.

If the connection between the chair shaft and the seat is loose, this is a relatively common situation. Usually, this part is fixed with screws. First, prepare a suitable screwdriver and carefully check the state of the screws. If the screws are only slightly loose, simply use the screwdriver to tighten them clockwise. If the screws have become stripped or damaged and can no longer serve their fixing function, new screws need to be used for replacement. When replacing, ensure that the specifications of the new screws are the same as those of the original ones to guarantee a firm fixation.

If the screws connecting the seat surface and the chair legs are loose, first find an appropriate screwdriver. Use the screwdriver to tighten the loose screws so that the seat surface and the chair legs are tightly connected. However, if the threads in the screw holes are stripped, directly tightening the screws at this time will not achieve a fixing effect. You can insert a piece of sharpened small wooden strip or bamboo piece into the screw hole. The material of the small wooden strip or bamboo piece should be relatively hard, and the sharpened end should be able to be smoothly inserted into the screw hole. After insertion, screw in a new self-tapping screw of the same specification. The threads of the self-tapping screw can better engage with the small wooden strip or bamboo piece, thus serving a fixing function.

If it is an office chair with casters and the connection between the caster bracket and the chair legs is loose, first find the fixing screws on the bracket and use a screwdriver to tighten them to ensure a firm connection between the caster bracket and the chair legs. If the casters themselves are wobbling or not rotating properly, they need to be replaced. First, pinch the clips on both sides of the caster and then forcefully pull off the old caster. Pay attention to the force during the pulling process to avoid damaging the chair legs. After that, select a new caster of the same size for installation to ensure that the new caster can rotate normally and is firmly fixed.

If the connection between the seat and the pneumatic rod is loose, this part is usually connected by fixing screws or clips. If the fixing screws are loose, use a screwdriver to tighten them. If the clip connection is loose, check whether the clip is damaged. If the clip is intact, simply re-fasten the clip. If the clip is damaged, a new clip needs to be replaced.
