Office Chair Shaft Broken

Admin October 11, 2026

When the shaft of an office chair breaks, there are different disassembly and replacement methods depending on the type of shaft:

Shaft in the middle of the universal wheel

  1. Saw off one side of the wheel shaft: Use an appropriate saw, such as a hacksaw, to saw off one side of the middle shaft of the office chair's universal wheel. Make sure the sawing position is accurate during operation to prevent damage to other parts of the wheel, which could affect subsequent use.
  2. Remove the shaft: After sawing off one side, insert a screwdriver into the parts where the two ends of the wheel shaft are connected to the wheel. By rotating the screwdriver, use the lever principle to remove the two ends of the wheel shaft from the wheel. You need to control the force well in this step to prevent the screwdriver from slipping and hurting yourself.
  3. Handle the other side of the shaft: If the other end is a long shaft and it is difficult to pry out, it may be because the long shaft is tightly stuck in the internal structure of the wheel. In this case, you can choose to saw off this section of the long shaft as well. When sawing, pay attention to controlling the force and direction to prevent the saw blade from slipping and hurting yourself or damaging the wheel.
  4. Install a new wheel: Prepare an appropriate new wheel, which usually comes with corresponding screws. Align the new wheel with the installation position on the office chair wheel, pass the screw through the center hole of the wheel and the installation hole at the bottom of the chair, and then use an appropriate screwdriver or wrench to tighten the screw to ensure the new wheel is firmly installed.

Central shaft of the swivel chair

  1. Preparation: Purchase an appropriate new central shaft to ensure it matches the model and specifications of the original swivel chair. At the same time, prepare necessary tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches, and ensure the work area is safe.
  2. Disassemble the old central shaft: Turn the swivel chair upside down so that its bottom faces up. Use a screwdriver or wrench to remove the screws or nuts that fix the central shaft, and then gently pull out the old central shaft, being careful not to damage other parts.
  3. Install the new central shaft: Align the new central shaft with the installation hole and gently insert it. Use a screwdriver or wrench to tighten the screws or nuts to ensure the central shaft is stably fixed. Check whether other parts are intact and replace them promptly if they are damaged.
  4. Test and adjust: Turn the swivel chair back to its normal use state and test its rotation function to ensure the newly installed central shaft works properly. If necessary, adjust the swivel chair to achieve the best use effect.

When performing disassembly and installation operations, wear protective gloves to prevent your hands from being cut by the saw or the edge of the wheel. Also, keep the operating environment clean to avoid interference from debris.
