Office Chair Sewing Standard

Admin October 13, 2026

The office chair sewing standard should be formulated comprehensively by combining materials, process parameters, and quality requirements. Currently, there is no unified national standard, but the following general guidelines can be referenced:

1. Material and Tool Requirements

  • Fabric and Lining: They should possess durability and abrasion resistance, with consistent color and texture within batches to avoid affecting appearance due to color differences or texture variations. The lining should be compatible with the surface material to prevent wrinkling or detachment caused by material conflicts. The filling should meet flame-retardant standards (such as GB 8410) and resilience requirements to ensure no deformation during long-term use.
  • Sewing Thread and Needles: Polyester or nylon threads are primarily used, with thread diameters selected based on the stress intensity of the components (e.g., thicker threads for load-bearing parts like backrests and seat cushions). Needle sizes should match the fabric thickness, with larger needles (such as 16#-18#) used for thick materials (such as leather and thickened mesh) to avoid needle breakage or skipped stitches.

2. Process Parameters and Spacing

  • Main Seam Stitch Length: Typically controlled at 3-4 millimeters (0.3-0.4 centimeters), this spacing balances sewing strength and surface smoothness, preventing seam cracking due to excessive stitch length or affecting fabric elasticity due to insufficient stitch length.
  • Edge Treatment: When binding or covering edges, the seam width should be 6-8 millimeters to ensure firm and aesthetically pleasing edges; hidden seams or decorative lines should be executed according to design requirements, with decorative piping appropriately widened to 1 centimeter.
  • Hand Sewing Spacing:
    • 0.5 centimeters (5 millimeters): Suitable for heavily loaded or precise parts (such as the connection between the seat backrest and the armrest and seat cushion), ensuring stitch density to enhance structural stability.
    • 1 centimeter: Suitable for decorative or lightly stressed areas (such as backrest decorative strips and side bindings), reducing visual interference from stitches.
  • Leather Materials: Special machine needles (such as leather needles) should be used, with sewing thread strength โ‰ฅ40N. Adhesive can be applied at seams to enhance fastness and prevent stitch loosening due to leather stretching.

3. Quality and Safety Requirements

  • Ironing and Shaping: After sewing, ironing should be done in sections to avoid local stiffness, burning, or wrinkling, paying special attention to the heat sensitivity of mesh materials to prevent deformation.
  • Joint Accuracy: Sewing lines at joints should be tightly aligned with the edges, with an error margin controlled within ยฑ0.5 millimeters to prevent gaps or misalignments affecting structural strength.
  • Safety Testing: If the office chair involves components such as gas rods and five-star bases, they should pass strength and durability tests (such as the Wright Level IV gas rod certification). However, this is not directly related to the sewing process and requires separate verification.

Note: Actual standards may vary depending on the product type (such as mesh chairs, leather chairs, and gaming chairs). It is recommended to further confirm by combining enterprise internal control standards or industry norms (such as the GB/T 10357 "Furniture Mechanical Performance Test" series) and conduct regular sampling inspections to ensure process stability.
