Office Chair Sewing Corner

Admin October 11, 2026

When sewing corners on office chairs, it is essential to ensure uniform stitch spacing and smooth corners, with the key lying in standardized operation and attention to detail. This can be divided into three parts: preparation before sewing corners, specific steps, and handling of common issues.

Preparation Before Sewing Corners

  1. Needle and Thread Selection: Match the needle and thread thickness according to the fabric thickness. For example, thick fabrics require thick needles (such as size 16) and strong sewing threads, while thin fabrics use fine needles (such as size 11) and regular threads to avoid thread breakage or fabric damage due to mismatched needle and thread.
  2. Sewing Machine Adjustment: Set the stitch length to approximately 2.5mm to ensure an appropriate stitch density. A stitch length that is too small can cause the fabric to wrinkle, while a length that is too large affects the durability.
  3. Marking and Seam Allowance Reservation: Mark the corners with tailor's chalk or a water-soluble pen, reserving a 1.5cm seam allowance. Insufficient seam allowance can lead to fabric tearing at the corners, while excessive allowance affects the appearance's flatness.

Specific Steps for Sewing Corners

  1. Speed Reduction: Slow down the sewing speed 1cm away from the corner to avoid skewed stitches due to inertia.
  2. Needle Position Fixing: When reaching the corner point, let the needle pierce the fabric and remain stationary, forming a fixed point to prevent fabric displacement.
  3. Fabric Rotation: Gently lift the presser foot and rotate the fabric 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise (adjust according to the corner direction), ensuring the fabric edges align after rotation.
  4. Continue Sewing: After lowering the presser foot, continue sewing along the next edge, maintaining a uniform speed and avoiding sudden stops and starts.

Common Issues and Handling Methods

  1. Uneven Corners: If there are depressions or protrusions at the corners, it may be due to excessive trimming of the seam allowance. Reduce the seam allowance to 1.2-1.5cm and ensure smooth trimming edges.
  2. Wrinkling at Corners: If the upper and lower layers of fabric are not aligned during sewing, wrinkles can occur. Gently pull the upper layer of fabric taut while lightly pressing the lower layer with your fingers to maintain even tension.
  3. Blunt Corners: If the corner is rounded instead of sharp, ensure the needle pierces the fabric before rotating. Before rotating, gently push the fabric with your hand to make it adhere closely to the needle plate.
  4. Loose Stitches: Check if the bobbin tension is appropriate. If the bobbin thread is too loose, adjust the bobbin case tension; if the upper thread is too loose, adjust the upper thread tension dial to ensure balanced tension between the upper and lower threads.

By following standardized operations and making detailed adjustments, the quality of sewing corners on office chairs can be effectively improved, ensuring smooth lines and a sturdy structure in the finished product.
