Office Chair Self-Skinning Mold Production

Admin October 08, 2026

Office chair self-skinning mold production is a manufacturing technique that achieves one-piece molding of the skin and foam core through closed-mold pouring, with the core focus on precise control of mold design, material ratios, and process parameters to produce polyurethane products with a dense skin and a soft core.

1. Process Characteristics
The self-skinning process achieves integrated molding of the skin and foam core through closed-mold pouring. After the mixed polyurethane raw materials are injected into the mold cavity, the material in contact with the inner wall of the mold rapidly reacts and solidifies under precisely controlled temperature and pressure, forming a dense skin; the internal material continues to foam and expand, creating a soft foam core. This process eliminates the need for additional adhesion or composite skin materials, significantly reducing production steps and improving production efficiency.

2. Mold Design and Material Ratios
Mold design is crucial for achieving the desired self-skinning effect. The mold temperature must be maintained within a specific range to ensure uniform skin thickness and clear texture. Excessive temperature may result in an overly thick or burnt skin, while insufficient temperature may lead to an incomplete or blurred skin. In terms of material ratios, the proportions of components such as isocyanates, polyols, and blowing agents must be precisely adjusted. The reaction speed between isocyanates and polyols directly affects the skin formation time, while the amount of blowing agent determines the density of the foam core. Imbalanced ratios may lead to issues such as skin cracking or uneven foam core density.

3. Production Process
The production process includes mold preparation, raw material mixing, injection molding, and post-processing. The mold must be cleaned, coated with a release agent, and preheated to the set temperature; the raw materials are metered and mixed using a high-pressure foaming machine before being injected into the mold; after closing the mold, the material completes its reaction inside the mold and is demolded after curing for a few minutes; the demolded workpiece requires trimming and cleaning to remove flash and ensure a complete appearance.

4. Quality Control
Quality control focuses on skin integrity, density distribution, and dimensional accuracy. Common defects include surface bubbles, missing texture, or uneven thickness, often related to mold condition, raw material mixing quality, or process parameter fluctuations. For example, uneven mold temperature may cause variations in skin thickness, while insufficient raw material mixing may lead to bubbles or uneven density.

5. Application Areas
Self-skinning molds are widely used in fields such as office chairs, automotive interiors, and furniture accessories for producing self-skinning PU products. Their advantages lie in the dense and wear-resistant surface of the products, the soft and comfortable interior, as well as high production efficiency and low cost.
