Office Chair Self-Rebounding

Admin October 10, 2026

The self-rebounding of an office chair may be caused by factors such as damage to the gas lift, deformation of the cushion's wooden board, or improper adjustment. Here is a detailed analysis and solutions:

Gas Lift Damage: The gas lift is the core component for the height adjustment function of an office chair. It is filled with high-pressure nitrogen gas internally and controls the lifting and lowering through a sealed structure. If the seal of the gas lift fails, the internal gas may be released abnormally, causing the chair to rebound automatically after a person leaves. This situation poses a safety hazard as the seal failure may trigger a sudden change in the internal pressure of the gas lift, and in extreme cases, even lead to an explosion. The solution is to immediately stop using the chair and contact a professional repair technician to replace the gas lift that meets safety standards. Do not disassemble it yourself or continue to use it.

Deformation of the Cushion's Wooden Board: Some office chair cushions use wooden support boards inside. If the wooden board deforms due to long-term pressure or a humid environment, it may change the overall force-bearing structure of the chair, causing abnormal rebounding. This type of problem usually does not involve damage to core components, but requires professional treatment to restore the flatness of the wooden board. The solution is to contact an experienced repair technician to solve the problem by adjusting the shape of the wooden board or reinforcing the support structure, without the need to replace the entire cushion or chair.

Improper Adjustment: The height adjustment of a lifting chair relies on the bottom screw to fix the position of the gas lift. If the screw is not tightened, the connection between the gas lift and the chair base may become loose, causing the chair to rebound automatically due to unstable fixation when the force changes (such as when a person gets up). This type of problem belongs to negligence in use or installation and can be solved through simple adjustments. The solution is to check the adjustment screw at the bottom of the chair, use a tool to tighten it to an appropriate degree, ensure that the gas lift is firmly connected to the base, and at the same time, test whether the lifting function of the chair is normal.

Daily Use Recommendations: Regularly check whether the appearance of the gas lift is intact, avoid heavy impacts or scratches from sharp objects; keep the office environment dry to prevent wooden components from getting damp and deforming; when adjusting the height, ensure that the screw is fully tightened to avoid safety hazards caused by looseness. If the chair shows abnormal rebounding, strange noises, or poor lifting and lowering, stop using it immediately and investigate the cause.
