Self-made Chair Covers for Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

There are multiple methods for making office chair covers, allowing you to choose the appropriate approach based on different needs and materials. Here are several common methods:

Simple Fabric Chair Cover: This method is suitable for those who pursue simplicity and quick production. First, prepare a piece of fabric the same size as the chair seat as the front of the chair cover, ensuring it can fully cover the chair seat. Then, prepare a long strip of fabric that can wrap around the edge of the chair seat for one week as the side of the chair cover. The width of the long strip can be determined according to the height of the chair side. Sew the front fabric and the side long strip together, paying attention to aligning the edges during sewing. You can use a sewing machine or manual needlework for the operation to ensure firm sewing. This type of chair cover is simple to make and has a low cost, but it may lack some decorative and functional features.

Detachable and Washable Computer Chair Backrest Cover: This method is more practical for situations where the backrest cover needs to be washed frequently. Find a piece of fabric large enough and leave an opening at the widest part of the backrest. The size of this opening should be convenient for putting the backrest cover on the backrest. Cut off the excess fabric and hem the edges to prevent the fabric from unraveling. After hemming and leaving the opening, lay the fabric flat on the backrest, aligning the edges with the edges of the backrest, and then sew the edges well. After sewing, fold it in half and sew from the inside. Lock more stitches at the end of the hem to enhance firmness. Finally, sew Velcro in the appropriate position. Attach the fuzzy Velcro to the back and the hooked Velcro to the front. Remember to leave space for the thickness of the Velcro so that the backrest cover can be easily detached and installed.

Leather Chair Cover: If you want to add a touch of texture to your office chair, a leather chair cover is a good choice. First, measure the width and height of the chair backrest and use a thick, stretchy fabric because a fabric with high elasticity will fit better. Draw the front dimensions of the chair back on the fabric, leaving an extra 3 centimeters on both sides for subsequent sewing and finishing. Cut the leather fabric according to the drawn dimensions and then sew it together, paying attention to the evenness and firmness of the stitches during sewing.

Ice Yarn Knitted Chair Cover: For those who like hand-knitting, an ice yarn knitted chair cover is a unique way to make one. Use ice yarn and prepare 8 skeins (about two taels). Start with 40 stitches for a width of about 50 centimeters, and the length can be adjusted according to personal needs. Leave a two-meter length of yarn at the beginning for sewing, and reserve at least ten or twelve meters of yarn during the knitting process. Use circular needles to cast on, and adjust the number of stitches according to needs. When knitting, loop two loops from the yarn onto the same stitch at the first stitch, and then repeat the steps of threading from the lower yarn, looping in front, and pulling the loop longer for subsequent knitting.
