Office Chair Self-Assembly Guide

Admin October 10, 2026

You can refer to the following steps for self-assembling an office chair. There may be slight differences depending on the brand and model, so it is recommended to follow the product manual:

1. Familiarize Yourself with the Components An office chair typically consists of components such as chair legs, casters, gas lift, base, seat, backrest, armrests, and a headrest (available on some models). Before assembly, check that all parts are present to avoid delays. For example, ensure that the screw sizes match and that the gas lift is intact, with no damage or deformation to any components.

2. Install the Casters and Gas Lift Press or screw each caster into the designated holes on the chair legs one by one, ensuring a secure fit without any looseness. Once done, insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair legs, making sure the metal end of the gas lift faces downward and the plastic end faces upward to provide stable support for connecting the base later. Some models may require installing the gas lift before securing the casters, so adjust the order according to the manual.

3. Attach the Base to the Seat Align the base with the mounting holes on the bottom of the seat. Insert the provided screws (usually M6 or M8 size) from the bottom of the seat upward and tighten them with a wrench or screwdriver. Ensure that the base and seat are fully flush to prevent any rattling or wobbling during use. If the base has adjustment buttons (such as for height adjustment or recline function), confirm that the buttons face outward for easy operation.

4. Connect the Backrest to the Seat Align the metal bracket of the backrest with the mounting holes at the rear of the seat. Secure it with three M8 screws (two for some models). Tighten the screws in a cross-pattern to prevent the backrest from tilting due to uneven force. After connection, gently shake the backrest to check for stability, ensuring there is no looseness or gap.

5. Install the Armrests and Footrest (if applicable) Armrests should be installed on the left and right sides. Align the armrest brackets with the reserved holes on the sides of the seat, secure them with screws, and tighten them. After flipping the seat, repeat the process to install the armrest on the other side. If equipped with a footrest, insert it into the metal slot or plastic hole at the front of the seat until you hear a โ€œclickโ€ sound, indicating it is properly installed.

6. Assemble the Overall Structure Lift the assembled seat portion and align the top of the gas lift with the center hole of the base. Gently press down to fully engage the two parts. Ensure that the gas lift is perpendicular to the base to prevent the height adjustment function from failing due to tilting. Finally, install the headrest (if applicable) by inserting it into the reserved hole at the top of the backrest and pressing it down until the bottom catch locks into place.

Precautions:

  • Avoid applying excessive force during assembly to prevent screw stripping or component damage.
  • Before installing the gas lift, confirm its weight capacity. Overloading may pose an explosion risk.
  • If you encounter difficulty inserting a catch, apply a small amount of lubricant to assist with installation.
