Self-Assembly of Office Chairs

Admin October 16, 2026

You can refer to the following steps for self-assembling an office chair. Different models may have slight variations:

1. Prepare Components An office chair typically consists of parts such as chair legs, casters, a gas lift, a base, a seat, a backrest, armrests, and a headrest. Before assembly, check that all components are present and inspect for any damage. Some brands (e.g., TOAI E1) may include additional components like a footrest, which should be confirmed in advance.

2. Install Casters and Gas Lift

  • Press or screw each caster into one of the five holes on the chair legs to ensure a secure fit.
  • Insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair legs, ensuring full contact between the lift and the legs. Note: The gas lift must remain vertical to prevent instability during subsequent assembly.

3. Secure Base to Seat

  • Place the base on the underside of the seat and tighten the accompanying screws (usually four long screws) with a screwdriver. Some designs require the base to be inserted into a groove on the seat; align the catches before securing.
  • Key Point: The installation direction of the base must match the seat's functions (e.g., the position of adjustment buttons).

4. Connect Backrest to Seat

  • Align the backrest with the seat and secure the connection with screws. Common methods include:
    • Using three M8 screws to fix the backrest horizontally (e.g., TOAI E1);
    • Connecting via metal brackets (L-shaped supports), ensuring all screws are tightened.
  • Tip: Some backrests require pre-installation of headrest rails; follow the instructions in sequence.

5. Install Seat Assembly onto Gas Lift

  • Slide the assembled seat (including the base) vertically onto the top of the gas lift, ensuring alignment between the base's center hole and the gas lift.
  • Safety Tip: Keep the seat balanced during this step to prevent tipping.

6. Install Armrests and Headrest

  • Armrests:
    • Align the armrests with the sides of the seat and secure them with screws (usually 2-3 screws per side).
    • Some designs require installing armrest brackets first, followed by the armrest panels.
  • Headrest:
    • Insert the headrest into the reserved hole at the top of the backrest; a clicking sound indicates proper installation.
    • Some headrests are height-adjustable; test the sliding function after installation.

7. Install Special Components (e.g., Footrest)

  • For TOAI E1, insert the footrest into the reserved hole at the bottom of the seat and ensure the catches are locked.
  • Note: The footrest has a limited weight capacity; avoid excessive pressure.

8. Final Inspection and Adjustment

  • Check that all screws are tightened to prevent loosening.
  • Test functions such as gas lift adjustment, backrest recline, and armrest adjustment for normal operation.
  • Adjust the headrest height to a comfortable position, ensuring no unusual noises or sticking.

Tip: Always read the instructions before assembly, as steps may vary by brand (e.g., Sihoo, Ergomax). If you encounter difficulties, contact customer service for installation videos to assist you.
