Exercises for Sedentary Office Chair Users
Exercises suitable for after sitting in an office chair for a long time mainly include chair yoga, seated fitness methods, and specific stretching exercises. These exercises can effectively relieve physical discomfort caused by prolonged sitting and prevent occupational diseases.

Chair yoga is a yoga practice performed on a chair, suitable for sedentary individuals to relax their body and mind. Exercise 1: Sit facing forward on the chair, lean your back slightly against the chair back, place your hands behind your head, inhale as you lean your hands back and spread your elbows outward, look at the ceiling; exhale as you tuck your chin in and bring your elbows inward, look down at your abdomen. This exercise can stretch the neck and shoulder muscles and relieve stiffness. Exercise 2: Turn around to face the chair back, spread your toes outward, grab the diagonal of the right chair back with your left hand, raise your right arm, exhale as you bend your body to the left, feel the stretch in your right waist muscles, and repeat on the other side. This exercise can move your waist and reduce waist soreness caused by prolonged sitting. Exercise 3: Sit on the side of the chair, turn your body towards the chair back, grab both ends of the chair back with your hands, inhale as you extend your spine upward, exhale as you twist your chest to the left rear, pull inward with your right hand and push outward with your left hand, keep your spine tall and your knees facing forward. This exercise can deeply twist your spine and promote blood circulation.
The seated fitness method involves completing full-body exercises in a seated position, covering multiple areas such as warm-up, abdominal and back muscle groups, shoulder joints, feet, and head. It includes low-intensity exercises such as leg raises, arm circles, and seated running, combined with breath regulation to achieve muscle relaxation and joint activation. For example, leg raises can exercise the leg muscles, arm circles can move the shoulder joints, and seated running promotes blood circulation in the lower limbs by simulating running movements. These exercises help maintain joint flexibility and prevent common occupational diseases such as back pain.
Specific stretching exercises can also effectively relieve discomfort from prolonged sitting. Exercise 1: Sit slightly forward on the chair, ensuring you can grab the chair back, place your other hand on the outside of the opposite foot, and hold statically. Inhale as you expand your chest, exhale as you twist backward, look at the oblique rear, and repeat on the other side. When doing this, keep your hands in opposition, inhale into your chest, and deepen the twist on exhale. This exercise can stretch the back and waist muscles and improve hunchback and waist muscle strain caused by prolonged sitting.
