Office Chair Seat Rod

Admin October 19, 2026

The core functions and design considerations of office chair seat rods include height adjustment, recline control, gas lift rod compatibility, and material safety.

1. Height Adjustment Rod The height adjustment rod is typically located on the right side of the seat. It allows for height adjustment by lifting or pressing down. When operating, maintain a seated position and use your body weight to assist in compressing or releasing the gas lift rod, ensuring a smooth adjustment process. The recommended adjustment standard is to have your knees bent at a 90-degree angle with your feet flat on the ground. This posture helps distribute body pressure evenly, preventing fatigue from prolonged sitting. If the seat height does not match the desk height, it may cause your arms to hang in the air or strain your shoulders and neck, affecting work efficiency.

2. Recline Control Rod The recline control rod is usually located on the left side of the seat and is responsible for adjusting the angle of the backrest. After lifting the rod, the backrest can recline to a preset angle and lock in place, meeting the needs for rest or slight recline. Some advanced models are equipped with knobs for fine-tuning the recline resistance: individuals with a heavier body weight need to tighten the knob to increase support and prevent excessive backrest compression; those with a lighter body weight should loosen the knob to reduce recline resistance. If the recline function fails, it may be due to rod wear or a stuck locking mechanism, requiring timely maintenance.

3. Gas Lift Rod Selection and Compatibility The gas lift rod is the core component of the height adjustment function and comes in three grades: low, medium, and high. Selection should be based on height and usage scenarios:

  • Height Compatibility: Individuals under 150cm should choose the low grade (short stroke), those between 150-175cm should choose the medium grade (standard stroke), and those over 175cm should choose the high grade (long stroke).
  • Scenario Compatibility: Those who stand for long periods while working should choose the high grade for quick adjustment to standing height; those who sit for long periods should choose the medium or low grade to avoid excessive wear on the gas lift rod from frequent adjustments. Poor-quality gas lift rods pose a risk of breakage. When purchasing, ensure the product has passed safety certifications such as SGS and BIFMA, and check that the rod body is marked with specifications and explosion-proof labels.

4. Material and Structural Safety The material of the gas lift rod, as a load-bearing component, directly affects its service life. High-quality gas lift rods are made of thickened steel tubes filled with high-purity nitrogen, enabling them to withstand dynamic loads (such as reclining and height adjustment) without deformation. Never forcefully bend the gas lift rod while standing, as this can cause a sudden increase in internal pressure, potentially leading to an explosion. If you notice gas leakage, difficulty in height adjustment, or surface rust on the gas lift rod, stop using it immediately and replace it.

During daily use, it is recommended to check the connections of the gas lift rod every 3-6 months for looseness, preventing structural failure due to prolonged vibration. Proper use and maintenance can significantly extend the lifespan of the seat rod and ensure safety.
