Office Chair Seat Leather
Admin October 16, 2026
Common types of office chair seat leather include genuine leather, ordinary PU or PVC leather, and microfiber. When purchasing, attention should be paid to abrasion resistance, hydrolysis resistance, odor, and details. Damaged leather can be repaired.

Common Materials and Characteristics
- Genuine Leather: It offers the best texture, with a soft touch and good breathability, but it is relatively expensive, typically costing several thousand yuan. Its drawbacks include sensitivity to water and sunlight; prolonged exposure to damp or high-temperature environments can cause deformation and mildew, and it requires regular maintenance with professional conditioners to prevent cracking.
- Ordinary PU or PVC Leather: It is inexpensive and commonly found on low-end office chairs, with costs as low as a few dozen yuan. However, it has poor aging resistance, often showing cracks and peeling within 2-3 years, and has poor breathability, leading to discomfort during prolonged use.
- Microfiber: It is a high-end category of synthetic leather, with a price between genuine leather and ordinary PU leather. Its abrasion resistance and hydrolysis resistance are significantly better than those of ordinary synthetic leather, with a service life of over 5 years. Its breathability is close to that of genuine leather, and it is highly stain-resistant, making it easy to clean daily and the most cost-effective choice.
Purchase Considerations
- Abrasion and Hydrolysis Resistance Indicators: Prioritize products that have passed international standards (such as ISO 5470 abrasion resistance test and ISO 1419 hydrolysis resistance test) to ensure that the chair is less likely to crack or peel during long-term use.
- Odor Detection: If a new chair has a strong pungent odor, it may contain harmful substances such as formaldehyde or benzene, which can be harmful to health with long-term exposure. Such chairs should be avoided.
- Detail Inspection: Check whether the stitching is even and neat, and whether the fabric thickness is uniform (high-quality microfiber typically has a thickness of โฅ1.2mm). Avoid products with seams that are prone to cracking or fabrics that are too thin.
Damage Repair Solutions
If the seat leather shows local wear or peeling, a strong self-adhesive leather repair patch can be used for coverage repair. Clean the damaged area, cut the repair patch to match the shape of the damage, peel off the backing adhesive, and press it flat. Use a roller to compact the edges. The repaired area can last for 1-2 years. If the damaged area is large or involves structural damage, it is recommended to contact a professional for repair or replacement of the seat leather.
