Office Chair Seat Height

Admin October 10, 2026

The height of an office chair seat generally ranges from 35 to 50 centimeters, with variations under different standards, and adjustable office chairs are more ergonomic. Details are as follows:

National Standard GB3326 - 1997: The seat height should be between 400 and 440 millimeters (i.e., 40 to 44 centimeters). However, mainstream products on the market can usually be freely adjusted within the range of 360 to 480 millimeters (i.e., 36 to 48 centimeters). This standard sets a basic range for the seat height of office chairs, aiming to meet the basic usage needs of most people. In actual production, considering the height differences among different users and the diversity of usage scenarios, many office chairs are designed with adjustable features to expand their applicability.

Common Standard Sizes: The standard size of an office chair is 40 - 45 centimeters, and it is advisable to choose an adjustable one with a range of 38 to 48 centimeters. This standard is derived based on ergonomic principles, taking into account the physical characteristics and usage habits of most people. An appropriate seat height allows the user's feet to rest naturally on the ground, with the thighs parallel to the ground and the knees bent at approximately 90 degrees, thereby reducing pressure on the legs and waist and improving comfort.

Range for Work Chairs: The seat height of office chairs (for work purposes) ranges from 35 to 50 cm. This relatively wide range can accommodate people of different heights, body types, and work requirements. For example, for shorter individuals, a lower seat height allows them to operate a computer more comfortably; for taller people, a higher seat height can prevent excessive bending of the legs and reduce fatigue.

National Standard GB/T 3976 - 2014: The height of adult office chairs should be within the range of 40 to 50 centimeters. This standard takes into account factors such as human body dimensions, work postures, and office environments, aiming to provide adults with more scientific and reasonable choices for office chair heights to safeguard their physical health and work efficiency.
