Office Chair Seat Disassembly

Admin October 09, 2026

The disassembly of an office chair seat usually involves several steps, including preparing tools, separating the backrest and the seat, removing the armrests, separating the seat from the gas lift, and disassembling the gas lift and the base.

  1. Preparing tools: Office chairs come in a variety of styles, and their design structures vary. Therefore, the tools required for disassembly also differ. Generally, a screwdriver is an essential tool for turning screws. A hammer may be used when disassembling some tight components. A power drill is suitable for situations where holes need to be drilled or special screws need to be removed. A towel can protect the components and prevent scratches during the disassembly process.
  2. Separating the backrest and the seat: First, locate the screws that fix the backrest and the seat. These screws are usually located at the connection between the backrest and the seat. Use an appropriate screwdriver to loosen and remove the screws, and then you can separate the backrest from the seat. During the operation, be sure to keep the screws well to avoid losing them and affecting subsequent assembly.
  3. Removing the armrests: If the armrests are fixed to the backrest or the seat, carefully observe the connection between the armrests and the backrest or the seat to find the corresponding screws. Use a screwdriver to remove these screws one by one, and then you can remove the armrests. Some armrests may adopt a snap-fit design. In this case, carefully find the position of the snaps and remove the armrests by pressing or prying.
  4. Separating the seat from the gas lift: This is a difficult part of the disassembly process. Usually, you need to raise the gas lift to its highest position, hold the seat cushion tightly with one hand, press the height adjustment lever with the other hand, and gently shake the seat several times to loosen the connection between the seat and the gas lift, and then remove the seat.
  5. Disassembling the gas lift and the base: After the seat and the gas lift are separated, place the base upside down on a stable surface. Use a rubber mallet or hit the gas lift with a wooden board in between to loosen the connection between the gas lift and the base through vibration, and finally remove the gas lift from the base.

During the disassembly of the office chair seat, be sure to pay attention to safety to avoid damaging the chair components or causing personal injury due to improper operation.
