Office Chair Seat Cushion Removal
The removal of the seat cushion from an office chair can be carried out following these steps:

I. Prepare Tools Before disassembly, prepare appropriate tools. A hex wrench is the core tool, and its size should match the screws (commonly 4mm or 5mm). If the screws are rusty or stuck, prepare a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) to assist in disassembly. Also, prepare a soft cloth or an old towel to place under the operation area to avoid scratching the chair surface.
II. Operation Steps
Flip the Chair Turn the chair upside down so that the backrest faces down and the base faces up, and place it on a stable surface (such as a workbench or clean floor). If the chair is heavy, it is advisable for two people to collaborate in flipping it to avoid imbalance or damage caused by one-handed operation.
Locate the Screws Observe the connection points between the seat cushion and the base and armrests. Usually, there are 4-6 screws securing them. Focus on checking:
- The fixing screw in the center of the base (connecting the seat cushion to the gas lift);
- The screws under the armrests (if the armrests are integrated with the seat cushion);
- The hidden screws on the edge of the seat cushion (for some models, you may need to lift the fabric or plastic cover).
- Remove the Screws
- Use a hex wrench: Turn each screw counterclockwise to loosen it. If a screw is too tight, first spray lubricant on the threads and wait for 2-3 minutes before operating.
- Avoid stripping the screws: Keep the wrench perpendicular to the screw when turning. If the screw head is worn, you can use a socket wrench or a rubber pad to increase friction.
- Store the screws separately: Place the removed screws in separate categories according to their positions (such as base screws and armrest screws) to avoid confusion during subsequent installation.
- Separate the Seat Cushion After all the fixing screws are removed, gently shake the seat cushion to separate it from the base. If there are snaps or adhesive between the seat cushion and the chair surface, use a plastic pry bar to slowly pry along the gap. Do not use metal tools to prevent scratches.
III. Precautions
- Safety first: Wear gloves during operation to prevent the screws from scratching your fingers. If the chair has a gas lift, avoid violent disassembly to prevent the internal high-pressure gas from spraying out.
- Record the steps: Take photos to record the positions of the screws and the connection methods before disassembly for easy installation later.
- Clean and maintain: After removing the seat cushion, you can clean the dust on the base or check if the gas lift is leaking to extend the service life of the chair.
By following these steps, you can systematically complete the disassembly of the seat cushion from an office chair while reducing the risk of damaging the parts. If you encounter special structures (such as an integrated plastic frame), it is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact after-sales service for professional guidance.
