Office Chair Seat Adjustment

Admin October 16, 2026

Adjusting the seat of an office chair requires scientific adjustments in terms of seat height, sitting posture angle, armrest height, and recline function to enhance comfort and protect physical functions.

Seat Height Adjustment

Seat height is a fundamental adjustment. Ensure that both feet are flat on the ground, with the thighs and lower legs forming an angle of 95ยฐ-100ยฐ. This distributes body weight evenly, preventing excessive pressure on the hips and thighs. If the chair is too high, causing the feet to hang in the air, a footrest can be used. If the chair is too low, increasing pressure on the knees, the seat height should be raised. After adjustment, check if the thighs are roughly parallel to the ground to stabilize the body's center of gravity and provide support for upper body posture.

Sitting Posture Angle Adjustment

Maintaining a slightly reclined posture of 100ยฐ-110ยฐ can effectively reduce lumbar spine pressure. The key is to have the back, especially the lower back, fit snugly against the chair back. If the chair is equipped with a lumbar support, adjust it to support the natural curve of the lumbar spine. This angle helps disperse spinal pressure and prevents lower back muscle strain caused by prolonged leaning forward.

Armrest Height Adjustment

The armrest height should match the naturalไธ‹ๅž‚ position of the elbows, ensuring that the forearms can rest comfortably on the armrests or desk, with the upper arms and forearms forming an angle of approximately 100ยฐ. This support relieves shoulder strain and reduces tension in the neck and shoulder muscles. If the armrests are too high or too low, it can cause the arms to hang in the air or lead to shrugged shoulders, potentially causing shoulder and neck pain over time.

Recline Function Adjustment

  1. Understanding Chair Types:

    • Basic office chairs: Only support seat height adjustment, with limited recline function.
    • Mid-range office chairs: Equipped with basic recline adjustment, controlled by a knob or lever.
    • High-end ergonomic chairs: Support multi-dimensional adjustments, including recline angle and lumbar support.
  2. Common Adjustment Mechanisms:

    • Lever adjustment: Locate the lever on the right or left side under the seat, release the lock, adjust the backrest angle, and lock it into a comfortable position.
    • Knob adjustment: Find the knob in the center under the seat, turn it clockwise to increase recline resistance and counterclockwise to decrease it.
    • Pneumatic adjustment: Linked to the height adjustment lever, adjust the recline angle by pushing in different directions.
  3. Angle Selection:

    • When focusing on work: Choose a smaller recline angle to maintain an upright body position.
    • When relaxing and thinking: Choose a larger angle for a more comfortable reclined position.
    • After prolonged work: Recline slightly to relax the back muscles and promote blood circulation.

Precautions: When adjusting the recline angle, ensure the chair's center of gravity is stable to avoid the risk of tipping over due to excessive recline.
