Office Chair Seat Adjustment

Admin October 14, 2026

Office chair seat adjustment can be carried out in terms of seat height, sitting posture angle, armrest height, etc., along with some other adjustments and precautions.

  1. Seat Height Adjustment Look for the hand control device, pull up the corresponding control lever or turn the knob to adjust the height. For some pneumatic models, repeatedly push the lever up and down to achieve lifting and lowering. When adjusting, ensure that both feet are completely flat on the ground, with the thighs and lower legs forming an angle of 95ยฐ-100ยฐ to evenly distribute body weight. If the chair is too high and causes the feet to hang in the air, a footrest can be used; if it is too low, it will increase the pressure on the knee joints. It can also be adjusted from a standing position so that the front end of the chair is just below the knees. When working on a computer, keep your eyes level with the monitor. If the monitor height cannot be adjusted, adapt by adjusting the seat height; when working at a desk, the elbows should be level with the desk; when sitting for a long time, ensure that both feet are flat on the floor.

  2. Sitting Posture Angle Adjustment Recline slightly to an angle of 100ยฐ-110ยฐ, which can effectively reduce lumbar spine pressure and make the back, especially the waist, fit against the chair back. If the chair is equipped with a lumbar support, adjust it to the position that supports the natural curve of the lumbar spine. This angle can disperse the pressure on the spine and avoid muscle fatigue caused by a long-time upright sitting posture.

  3. Armrest Height Adjustment The armrest height should be adjusted so that when the elbows hang naturally, the forearms can be easily placed on the armrests or the desk, with the upper arms and forearms forming an angle of approximately 100ยฐ to relieve the burden on the shoulders. If the armrests interfere with the knees sliding under the desk, lower or remove them. For scenarios where arm support is not required, removing the armrests can avoid space limitations.

  4. Other Adjustments and Precautions

    • Monitor height: Raise the monitor so that the line of sight is level with the top edge of the screen, which can force the spine to stretch naturally and avoid increased pressure due to neck forward extension.
    • Dynamic sitting posture: Change your sitting posture every 30 minutes and relax your body through hip joint stretching, lower back loosening, and other movements.
    • Footrest use: If the chair is too high, prepare a footrest and place it under the desk so that both feet can be placed flat on it to maintain the correct sitting posture.
    • Armrest flexibility: When arm support is not required, lowering or removing the armrests can avoid restricted movement.
