Office Chair Seat Adjustment

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair seat adjustment should be carried out from five aspects: height, recline angle, sitting posture angle, lumbar support, and armrest height to ensure comfort and health.

1. Seat Height Adjustment Seat height is the foundation of adjustment. Ensure that both feet are flat on the ground, with a 95ยฐ to 100ยฐ angle between the thighs and lower legs. This angle allows for even distribution of body weight, preventing localized pressure on the hips and thighs. If the chair is too high, causing the feet to hang in the air, a footrest can be used for support. If the chair is too low, it can significantly increase pressure on the knee joints, potentially leading to joint discomfort over long-term use. Adjustment is typically done using a gas lift or lever under the seat, with some chairs requiring continuous pressing of the adjustment button until the desired height is reached.

2. Recline Angle Adjustment The recline function helps disperse back pressure and reduce lumbar strain. Adjustment methods vary depending on the chair type:

  • Lever Adjustment System: Located on the side under the seat, pull the lever to release the recline lock, lean back to a comfortable angle, and then relock it.
  • Knob Adjustment System: The knob is usually located near the base of the seat close to theๆ”ฏๆŸฑ (support column). Turn it clockwise to increase recline resistance and counterclockwise to decrease it, adjusting according to body weight.
  • Pneumatic Adjustment System: Shares a lever with height adjustment, allowing for smooth recline by pushing in different directions, suitable for scenarios requiring frequent adjustments.

3. Sitting Posture Angle Maintain a slightly reclined sitting posture (100ยฐ to 110ยฐ), ensuring that the back, especially the lumbar region, is in contact with the chair back to effectively reduce lumbar pressure. If the chair back cannot be fixed at an angle, use the recline adjustment function to lock it in place, preventing spinal deformation from prolonged forward leaning.

4. Lumbar Support Adjustment If the chair is equipped with a lumbar support, adjust it to the natural curve of the lumbar spine (about 2-3 finger widths above the waist). The support should feel gentle and stable, avoiding excessive pressure. Some lumbar supports can be moved up or down or forward and backward, requiring fine-tuning according to body shape for the best position.

5. Armrest Height Adjustment The armrest height should match the position of the elbows when they are naturally hanging down, allowing the forearms to rest easily on the armrests or desktop, with the upper arms and forearms forming an approximately 100ยฐ angle. This posture helps relieve shoulder pressure and prevent muscle fatigue. When adjusting, observe the height difference between the arms and desktop simultaneously to ensure that the wrists remain straight when operating the keyboard or mouse.

Precautions: After adjustment, sit quietly for 5-10 minutes to assess comfort and avoid overlooking potential issues due to initialไธ้€‚ๅบ” (discomfort). After long-term use, it is recommended to regularly check if the adjustment components are loose to ensure normal functionality.
