Office Chair Seat Adjustment

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair seat adjustment should be carried out scientifically from three aspects: height, task adaptability, and safety and comfort. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Basic Height Adjustment

  1. Operation Method:

    • Locate the hand control device (lever or knob) beneath or on the side of the seat. After sitting down, adjust the height by pulling up the lever (some models may require turning the knob or repeatedly pumping the lever to raise and lower the seat). If unsure about the operation method, read the instructions or try each lever one by one.
    • Move the seat a few centimeters at a time during adjustment, and return the lever to its original position after completion. Some pneumatic models require repeated up-and-down pushing of the lever to achieve height adjustment.
    • If adjusting the sitting position is difficult, stand and operate: position the front of the chair just below the knees, so that when sitting down, the feet can naturally rest flat on the ground.
  2. Verification Standard:

    • After adjustment, the feet should naturally rest flat on the ground, with the thighs parallel to the ground and the knees bent at approximately 90 degrees, avoiding foot suspension or thigh compression.

II. Selecting the Appropriate Height Based on Tasks

  1. Computer Operation Scenario:

    • Maintain eye level with the top of the monitor. If the monitor height is not adjustable, adjust the seat height to level the gaze and reduce neck forward tilt.
  2. Desktop Work Scenario:

    • Adjust the seat height so that the elbows are naturally bent at 90 degrees and the forearms rest flat on the desktop, avoiding excessive strain on the shoulders or wrists.
  3. Prolonged Sitting Scenario:

    • Prioritize ensuring that the feet rest flat on the ground. If the chair is too high and cannot be adjusted, use a footrest to support the feet and slide the footrest under the desk to maintain overall stability.

III. Enhancing Safety and Comfort

  1. Armrest Adjustment:

    • If the chair is equipped with adjustable armrests, adjust the height according to the task: when typing, the armrests should be level with the desktop to support the elbows; when arm support is not needed (e.g., when frequently getting up), lower the armrests or remove them to avoid obstructing the knees from sliding under the desk.
  2. Dynamic Sitting Posture Management:

    • Change the sitting posture every 15-30 minutes, such as briefly leaning forward, sitting up straight, or adjusting the distribution of body weight to promote blood circulation and reduce muscle fatigue.
  3. Special Component Adjustment:

    • The headrest of some dynamic ergonomic chairs (e.g., the Qingxian brand) can be adjusted in height by pulling, and some models also support front-to-back adjustment, which should be operated according to neck support needs.

Note: If discomfort persists after adjustment (e.g., waist suspension, leg numbness), check whether the chair fits the body type or consult a professional to adjust parameters such as the backrest angle and lumbar support position.
