Office Chair Screw Specifications

Admin October 19, 2026

The specifications of office chair screws vary depending on the part and type of use. Common specifications are as follows:

Hexagon socket screws are the most commonly used connectors in office chairs, and their specification selection is closely related to the functional requirements of the connecting parts. For ordinary connection scenarios (such as bracket splicing), the M6 specification is usually used; for the connections between the chair back, seat, and bracket, which need to balance strength and flexibility, common metric models such as M4, M5, M6, and M8 are used, with lengths ranging from 8mm to 40mm. For example, combinations like 412 (M4ร—12mm), 616 (M6ร—16mm), and 8ร—20 (M8ร—20mm) are used; for load-bearing parts (such as the chassis or caster fixation), the M8 specification is preferred to enhance stability. Regarding matching tools, the size of the hexagon socket wrench strictly corresponds to the screw specification: M4 requires an S3 wrench, M5 requires an S4, M6 requires an S5, and M8 requires an S6. Using the wrong one may cause slippage or damage.

Universal wheel screws have relatively high uniformity in specifications. To fit the wheel mounting holes of most home office chairs, the standard screw specification is M8, with an inner diameter of the hole of approximately 8mm. This design not only ensures a firm connection between the wheels and the chair body but also allows users to easily replace damaged universal wheels without the need for additional adaptation to different sizes.

Self-tapping screws are mostly used for fixing non-metallic parts (such as plastic chair backs or wooden armrests), and their specification selection needs to balance penetration and nail-holding capacity. Common specifications are M4, M5, or M6, with lengths concentrated between 10-20 millimeters. For example, M4ร—12mm may be selected for fixing thin plastic parts, while M6ร—20mm is required for reinforcing thicker wooden parts. The pointed design of self-tapping screws allows them to tap threads in the material by themselves, but care should be taken to control the screwing force to avoid material cracking.

It should be specially noted that the specification of screws is usually marked in the form of 'diameterร—length' (such as M6ร—25mm). When purchasing, users should confirm the parameters according to the specific use scenario. For load-bearing structures (such as the fixation of the pneumatic rod), it is recommended to prefer hexagon socket screws or special fasteners and strictly refer to the specification requirements in the product manual to ensure safety in use.
