Office Chair Screw Hole

Admin October 09, 2026

When installing screw holes for office chairs, it is essential to focus on hole matching, installation strength, suitable scenarios, and safety details. The specific operations are as follows:

  1. Confirm Hole Size Matching
The screw holes for the casters of office chairs are mostly standard specifications, commonly M8 or M10, but some niche models may use non-standard diameters. Before installation, use a vernier caliper to measure the inner diameter and pitch of the holes to ensure they match the thread specifications of the accessories (such as casters, bases, and armrests). If the hole diameter does not match the screws, it may lead to installation difficulties or looseness, and even damage the chair structure.

  2. Control Installation Strength
The tightening force of the screws should be adjusted according to the material of the chair frame:

  • Plastic chair frames: They have a lower load-bearing limit. Over-tightening can easily cause the holes to crack or strip. It is recommended to tighten by hand until slight resistance is felt and avoid using power tools.
  • Wooden or metal chair frames: They can be paired with anti-loosening washers (such as spring washers or nylon lock nuts) to enhance the stability of the screw engagement and prevent loosening after long-term use.
  1. Suit Different Usage Scenarios
The choice of accessories should be based on the floor material and usage environment:
  • Wooden or tiled floors: Prefer casters with soft rubber wheels to reduce scratches and lower noise.
  • Outdoor or factory workshops: Choose casters with wear-resistant nylon wheels to improve impact resistance and service life.
  • Special scenarios: For example, carpets require high-load-bearing wheels, or for noise reduction needs, rubber wheels can be selected. It is necessary to confirm whether the screw holes support the corresponding accessories.
  1. Safety Details and Testing
  • Installation sequence: Some office chairs require step-by-step installation (e.g., the wheels need to be pressed firmly into the base holes; the base is fixed with the four middle holes; the armrests use the longest screws on both sides, tightened halfway first, and then all screws are tightened uniformly after they are in place).
  • Final inspection: After installation, gently shake the chair to test whether the casters are secure and free of jamming, and whether the connections between the base and armrests are stable. Ensure there is no risk of detachment before normal use.

Precautions: If the screw holes show signs of stripping or cracking, stop using immediately and replace the chair frame or accessories; non-professionals should not enlarge the holes or modify them by themselves to avoid compromising structural safety.
