Office Chair Scratching Issues
Office chair scratching may be caused by issues with the height of the gas lift, the base rollers, the floor flatness, or the chair leg structure, and can be resolved through targeted adjustments or the use of protective accessories.

1. Improper Adjustment of Gas Lift Height
If the gas lift is adjusted too low, its bottom metal tip will directly contact the floor, and friction between the metal and the floor when pushing or pulling the chair can easily leave scratches. Solution: When adjusting the height of the gas lift, ensure that there is a 1-2 cm gap between the bottom and the floor to prevent the metal tip from directly contacting hard floors.
2. Damage to the Base or Roller Structure
Deformation of the base steel plate, jamming or detachment of the universal wheels, or breakage of the roller brackets can lead to abnormal chair support, causing the metal part of the gas lift to contact the floor after sinking. Solution: Regularly check the base for looseness and promptly replace worn nylon rollers; choose steel rollers with bearing designs to enhance durability and smoothness.
3. Floor Flatness Issues
Protrusions at carpet seams, damaged tiles, or warped wooden floors can cause the gas lift to accidentally contact uneven areas when sliding, resulting in scratches or jams. Solution: Lay PVC protective mats on the floor to cushion pressure and reduce friction; or use chair mats with a rubber particle layer for secondary protection to increase the stability of the contact surface.
4. Concentrated Load on the Bow-shaped Chair Leg Structure
When the tips of metal bow-shaped chair legs directly contact the floor, hard floors are prone to scratches, wooden floors may dent, and tiles may slip due to insufficient friction. Solution: Equip bow-shaped chair legs with dedicated chair leg pads, choosing products with an inner ring that precisely fits the arc of the chair legs and an outer layer made of TPE material, with a micro-suction cup pattern and matte particles on the bottom to prevent slipping and disperse pressure, protecting the floor.
Protective Recommendations
- Avoid frequently dragging the chair during daily use to reduce direct contact between metal parts and the floor.
- Regularly check the wear of components such as the gas lift and rollers, and promptly replace aging parts.
- Choose appropriate protective measures based on the floor material, such as using PVC mats for hard floors and soft silicone mats for wooden floors.
