Office Chair Scratches Wall
Admin October 16, 2026
The method for dealing with an office chair scratching the wall depends on the wall material and the degree of scratching, as detailed below:

I. Classification and Handling by Wall Material
Ordinary Latex Paint Wall
- Minor Scratches:
- Clean the wall: Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe away dust and stains, preventing them from penetrating.
- Repair scratches:
- Use the same color of latex paint for local repair, ensuring color matching;
- Gently wipe stains with a damp cloth dipped in dishwashing detergent, or mix toothpaste with water and wipe with a towel;
- Lightly sand the scratched area with 1200-grit sandpaper to remove raised parts;
- For white walls, use a white cloth dampened with water to gently wipe, or gently rub stains with an eraser;
- After scraping off a thin layer of paint, apply white shoe polish to temporarily cover the flaw.
- Severe Damage:
- Remove the damaged area down to the base layer and sand it smooth;
- Reapply putty and allow it to dry, then paint with latex paint to restore the surface.
- Minor Scratches:
Wallpaper Wall
- Minor Scratches: Gently rub the surface marks with an eraser, avoiding excessive force that could cause damage.
- Damage Repair:
- Clean around the damaged area and cut out leftover wallpaper of the same pattern;
- Apply wallpaper adhesive to the damaged area and the back of the leftover piece, then paste and use a scraper to remove air bubbles, ensuring a smooth fit.
Tile Wall
- Minor Scratches: Wipe with tile cleaner and a soft cloth to restore shine.
- Deeper Scratches: Purchase a specialized tile repair agent, apply according to instructions, and allow to dry to improve the appearance of scratches.
II. Preventive Measures
- Reduce Contact:
- Replace with backless or shallower chairs to lower the probability of collision with the wall.
- Add Cushioning:
- Cover the chair with a soft chair cover or attach foam pads to the backrest to reduce scratching force.
- Wall Protection:
- Use non-marking sealing tape on wall areas prone to contact to form a protective layer.
Notes: Before handling, assess the wall material and degree of damage. When repairing latex paint walls, pay attention to color consistency; when repairing wallpaper, ensure the leftover piece matches the pattern. Preventive measures can be combined for better results.
