Office Chair Scratches
Admin October 08, 2026
The issue of scratches on office chairs can be addressed from two aspects: scratch removal methods and causes of scratches, as detailed below:

Scratch Removal Methods
Black scratches on floors:
- Toothpaste wiping: Apply toothpaste to the scratched area on the fabric surface and wipe repeatedly with a towel. This method is suitable for minor scratches.
- Wooden piece sanding: Gently sand the scratched area on the furniture surface with a wooden piece, then apply wax and wipe lightly to cover. This method is suitable for wooden floors.
- Touch-up pen repair: Purchase a touch-up pen that matches the color of the chair and apply it evenly to the damaged area. Pay attention to color matching.
- Professional repair: If the scratches are severe or the above methods are ineffective, it is recommended to contact a housekeeping company or repair personnel for handling.
- Preventive measures: Place carpets to protect the floor, avoid applying excessive force when moving the chair, and regularly maintain the floor material (e.g., spray with polish).
Scratches on office furniture:
- Light-colored scratches on solid wood: Scrape wax into powder and apply it to the scratched area. Heat to melt and then remove excess wax. Allow to cool.
- Dark-colored scratches on solid wood: Crush the flesh of walnuts, hickory nuts, or Brazil nuts and wipe along the scratched area, using the fruit oil to darken the scratches.
- Small scratches on rosewood: If the wood layer is not damaged, fill the scratches with furniture repair crayons and pigments, then apply a thin layer of nail polish for protection.
- Scratches on walnut wood: Slice a lemon and cover the scratched area. After a moment, quickly dry it with a soft cloth soaked in hot water.
Causes of Scratches
- Improper adjustment of the pneumatic rod height: When the pneumatic rod is adjusted to the lowest setting, the metal structure of the chassis is prone to touching the floor and causing scratches. It is recommended to leave a 1-2cm gap when adjusting to avoid direct contact with the floor.
- Wear and tear of chassis components: After approximately 3000 uses, the wheel axles of nylon casters may wear and form burrs, which can scratch the floor even when the height is normal. Deformation of the chassis steel plate, jamming of the universal wheels, or breakage of the caster brackets can cause the pneumatic rod to sink and touch the floor.
- Floor adaptability issues: The hardness difference between glazed tiles and the aluminum alloy material of the pneumatic rod chassis is significant. When sliding, the contact pressure (up to 3.5MPa) may exceed the bearing strength of the tile glaze. Uneven floors (e.g., carpet seam protrusions, tile defects) can increase the probability of the pneumatic rod touching the floor by 40%.
- Pneumatic rod aging and displacement: When the internal nitrogen pressure is insufficient (below 5MPa), the pneumatic rod will automatically settle, causing the chassis to touch the floor.
- Accelerated wear due to overloading: Office chairs are typically designed to bear no more than 120kg. Long-term overloading can accelerate the wear of the seal ring, leading to nitrogen leakage and automatic height reduction.
