Office Chair Scratch Prevention

Admin October 11, 2026

The following measures can be taken to prevent scratches on office chairs:

1. Use chair leg pads

  • Universal self-adhesive leg pads: Made of wear-resistant felt or silicone material, they are installed by wrapping the adhesive around the chair legs, quickly providing anti-slip, quiet, and scratch-resistant effects. The felt type offers better shock absorption, while the silicone type has stronger wear resistance. However, long-term weight-bearing or surface dust can accelerate the peeling of the adhesive. It is necessary to clean the chair legs with alcohol and press firmly to ensure a good fit and extend their lifespan.
  • High-adhesive tape-style leg pads: These can be freely cut to wrap around the bottom and sides of the chair legs, suitable for irregular shapes, providing all-around protection. Their high-adhesive backing is suitable for flat surfaces. Before sticking, ensure the chair legs are dry and dust-free, making them ideal for scenarios with frequent small-scale movement.
  • Silicone sleeve-style leg pads: Made of soft and elastic silicone material, they can effectively absorb the impact of movement, providing significant noise reduction and being a mainstream choice for quiet protection.

2. Choose swivel chairs with wheels
Opt for swivel chairs with wheels first, as their friction is less than that of bow-back chairs or fixed-leg chairs, reducing the risk of scratches. It is important to check the wheel material: Wheels with an aluminum alloy casing and rubber are highly wear-resistant and have moderate grip, suitable for wooden floors; hard plastic or metal wheels can easily scratch the floor and should be avoided.

3. Optimize wheel material and condition

  • Material selection: High-quality wheels should have an elastic outer layer (such as rubber or polyurethane) and a sturdy inner core (such as aluminum alloy), which can both cushion pressure and disperse friction.
  • Regular maintenance: Check if the wheels rotate smoothly and promptly clean any entangled hair, dust, or other dirt to prevent local pressure from becoming too high due to jamming and scratching the floor.

4. Lay down an office chair carpet
Laying a carpet in the office area can form a physical barrier, directly preventing contact between the chair legs and the floor. Note: The carpet thickness should be moderate (recommended 3-5mm), as excessive thickness may affect the smooth sliding of the wheels; the material should be short-pile or flat-woven for easy cleaning and less dirt accumulation. This method is suitable for fixed workstations but restricts the movement range of the chair.

Key principles: Protective measures should be selected based on the usage scenario (such as floor type and chair movement frequency). For example, for wooden floors, it is recommended to use silicone leg pads + aluminum alloy wheels; for tiled floors, protection can be simplified; if frequent movement is required, prioritize the combination of a carpet + high-quality wheels.
