Office Chair Sagging Solution
Admin October 09, 2026
The solution to office chair sagging should be selected based on the specific cause. Here are the common causes and corresponding handling methods:

I. Simple Inspection and Repair
- Safety Inspection and Screw Tightening
Flip the chair over onto an open ground and check if the screws at the connections between the chassis, the gas lift, and the seat are loose. If any are found to be loose, use tools to tighten all visible screws, especially those at key connection points. - Function Assessment and Temporary Repair
If the chair sinks all the way to the bottom when you sit down and the adjustment handle fails to work, it may be due to damage to the seal ring of the gas lift. You can try adding 1-2 drops of engine oil around the deflation button or the seal ring to temporarily increase the sealing performance (effective only for some models). - Foreign Object Blockage Inspection
Check if there are any foreign objects blocking the adjustment valve or the locking mechanism at the bottom of the chair. For electric height-adjustable chairs, further inspect whether the power supply, circuit, and motor are functioning properly.
II. Targeted Repair Methods
- Hose Clamp Repair
- Remove the plastic skirt (if covering the cylinder) and adjust the chair to a height where the seat is level with your knees when standing.
- Wrap a hose clamp around the cylinder. Increase the friction by adding rubber bands, tape, or sanding the surface of the cylinder. Tighten the clamp and secure it.
- Test the height. If it is not ideal, move the clamp up or down. If it slips, secure it with rubber strips or switch to the PVC pipe method.
- PVC Pipe Repair
- Measure the diameter of the cylinder and its length at the desired height. Select a PVC pipe with a diameter of about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm).
- Either split the pipe lengthwise and slip it over the cylinder or keep the pipe intact and slide it on after removing the wheels (use a screwdriver to press the base fixing clips).
III. Gas Lift Replacement
- Tool and Accessory Preparation
Use a hammer or an adjustable wrench and prepare a small amount of lubricating oil. Purchase a new gas lift that meets safety standards (such as SGS Level 4 certification and TUV certification) and ensure that the specifications match. - Removal of the Old Gas Lift
Raise the chair to its maximum height and then turn it upside down. Gently tap the edge of the central sleeve of the five-star base with a hammer to separate the base from the gas lift. If it is rusted, you can drip lubricating oil to assist. - Installation and Testing
After installing the new gas lift, test whether the height adjustment function works properly and ensure there is no air leakage or abnormal noise.
If the above methods are ineffective, or if there are cracks, rust, or deformation on the surface of the gas lift, stop using the chair immediately and replace the gas lift or the chair. During the warranty period, contact after-sales service first. Non-professionals should avoid disassembling complex structures on their own.
