Office Chair Rubbing Against the Wall

Admin October 11, 2026

To solve the problem of an office chair rubbing against the wall, we can approach it from three aspects: rubbing methods, methods to prevent wall scratches, and other suggestions.

Rubbing Methods

  • Direct Push Method: Stand behind the chair, hold the backrest or armrests with both hands, and slowly push the chair towards the wall so that one side touches and rubs against it. Be careful to control the force to avoid damaging the chair or the wall due to excessive force.
  • Rotational Friction Method: Place the chair at an appropriate distance from the wall. Hold the backrest with one hand to keep it stable, and grasp the edge of the chair with the other hand. Slowly rotate the chair so that the edge rubs against the wall. This method is suitable for situations where local rubbing is required.
  • Lateral Movement Rubbing Method: First, place the chair parallel to the wall. Use one hand to press against the wall for support and the other hand to push the side of the chair, making it move horizontally along the wall to achieve the rubbing purpose.
  • Lifting Rubbing Method: If the chair is light, lift one end of the chair, such as the front legs, with both hands, let the back legs touch the ground, and then gently place the lifted end close to the wall. Repeat the operation. If the chair is heavy, lift a part of it first and then slowly adjust the angle for rubbing.
  • Using External Force Method: Find a rope or a long pole. Tie one end of the rope to the chair leg or armrest, hold the other end yourself, and stand at a certain distance from the wall. Pull the rope to make the chair move towards the wall. You can also use one end of the long pole to press against the chair and the other end to push, using the force of the long pole to make the chair rub against the wall.

Methods to Prevent Wall Scratches

  • Use Foam Pads: Place foam pads of appropriate size between the chair and the wall to reduce friction.
  • Adjust the Chair Angle: Avoid having the chair in close contact with the wall for a long time to reduce the possibility of scratching the wall.
  • Choose Furniture Scratch-Resistant Protective Film: Stick it on the chair so that even if it touches the wall, it will not cause damage.
  • Use Decorations to Cover the Gap: Use decorations such as picture frames to cover the gap between the chair and the wall, which is both aesthetically pleasing and can prevent scratches.
  • Use Paper Tape: Paper tape has a certain degree of stickiness and elasticity, which can buffer the direct contact between the chair and the wall.
  • Use Soft Tools like Sponges: Sponges are soft and have strong adsorption capacity, which can reduce the friction between the chair and the wall.
  • Equip with Anti-Collision Corner Covers: Cover the edges of the chair comprehensively. You can also choose different anti-slip materials according to the floor material.
  • Apply Transparent Nail Polish or Glass Coating: Apply a layer on the sharp parts of the chair to act as an isolation.
  • Stick Sponges or Soft Foam: Stick sponges or soft foam on the parts of the chair that can rub against the wall, or use old clothes to cover the backrest.
  • Use Non-Marking Sealing Tape: Stick it on the wall. The transparent tape can prevent the chair from rubbing against the wall.

Other Suggestions

  • Replace the Chair: Choose a chair without a backrest or with a shallow depth to reduce contact with the wall.
  • Set Up Obstacles: Place an item vertically on the ground behind the chair, such as a laptop packaging box, to prevent the chair from getting too close to the wall.
