Office Chair Rotation Failure

Admin October 12, 2026

The following steps can be taken to troubleshoot and resolve office chair rotation failures:

First, check and clean the wheels and foreign objects. Over long-term use, small debris such as hair and threads can easily become entangled in the wheel axles, causing the wheels to jam and preventing normal rotation, which in turn affects the overall rotation function of the chair. In this case, lay the chair down or tilt it, carefully inspect each wheel, and use your hands or appropriate tools to remove any foreign objects wrapped around the axles. At the same time, check the condition of the floor where the chair is placed. Thick or rough carpets can increase the resistance to the chair's movement and rotation. Move the chair to a smooth, hard surface for testing to see if the rotation function is restored.

Next, check and tighten the screws and connectors. During long-term use under heavy loads and frequent rotation, the screws on the bottom connectors of the office chair may become loose. Focus on checking the screws connecting the five-claw bracket to the central turntable, which are usually located at the bottom of the turntable, as well as the fixing screws on each wheel mounting base. Use an appropriate screwdriver to moderately tighten these screws to ensure that all components are firmly connected and to prevent rotation issues caused by loose screws.

If the problem persists after the first two steps, lubricate the turntable bearings. The ball bearings and sliding grooves inside the base turntable may dry out of lubricating grease over long-term use, and dust can easily infiltrate, leading to rust and jamming, which affects the chair's rotation. Locate the gap between the turntable and the base, spray WD-40 multi-purpose lubricant into the gap, and then rotate the chair body back and forth to help the lubricant spread better to all parts. After waiting a few minutes, use a clean cloth to wipe away any excess oil stains, and then test to see if the rotation function is restored.

In addition, check the gas cylinder. Observe whether the gas cylinder is bent or deformed. If there are issues with the gas cylinder, it may affect the rotation of the chair. Since the gas cylinder contains high-pressure gas, non-professionals should not disassemble or repair it themselves. Contact professional repair personnel for handling or directly replace it with a new gas cylinder.

After completing the above simple maintenance, if the problem still exists, it may be due to a failure of the core mechanical components (such as the gas spring or the internal mechanism of the base). It is generally not recommended for users to disassemble and repair it themselves. Professional repair personnel should be contacted in a timely manner.
