Office Chair Rotates Too Fast

Admin October 17, 2026

The issue of an office chair rotating too fast can be resolved through the following methods, and an appropriate solution should be selected based on the specific structure:

1. Lock the casters to reduce overall movement If the chair rotates too fast due to caster rotation, prioritize replacing the casters with locking brake casters that have a locking function to restrict wheel rolling through physical braking. If replacement is not immediately possible, a simple friction method can be used: insert rough paper pieces, rubber pads, or cloth at the points where the casters contact the ground to reduce the rotation speed by increasing rolling resistance. This method is suitable for situations where there is insufficient friction between the wheels and the ground, but regular checks are required to ensure that the pads do not shift.

2. Tighten the connections between the base and structural components Excessive rotation may result from abnormal force transmission due to a loose chair frame. Check all connection points, including the screws of the armrests, backrest, five-star base, and chassis, and tighten them if necessary, using a wrench for reinforcement. If the chair has a detachable structure, disassemble and then reassemble it to ensure that all components are properly latched. For metal frames, wrap reinforcing straps (such as nylon cable ties) around the connections or use the principle of triangular stability to add diagonal braces to fix the frame and reduce excessive rotation caused by structural shaking.

3. Adjust the height of the chair legs or increase friction By lowering the height of the chair legs to shorten the distance between the center of gravity and the ground, the centrifugal force during rotation can be reduced, thereby decreasing rotational flexibility. If the chair supports height adjustment, adjust the gas lift to the lowest position; if it has a fixed height, attach anti-slip pads (such as silicone pads) or add rubber pads to the bottom of the chair legs to restrict rotation by increasing the contact area and friction. Note that the thickness of the pads should be uniform to prevent the chair from tilting.

4. Use adjustment knobs to lock the rotation function Some office chairs are equipped with rotation locking devices, usually located on the side of the gas lift or chassis. When operating, first adjust the chair to the desired angle, then press the locking button or rotate the adjustment knob to the โ€œLOCKโ€ position to fix the current rotation state. If the locking device fails, it may be due to aging of the internal spring or wear of the latch, and you need to contact after-sales service to replace the parts.

5. Add lubricating oil specifically to reduce abnormal friction If excessive rotation is accompanied by stuttering or abnormal noises, it may be due to a lack of lubrication in the gas lift or pivot points. Apply a small amount of special lubricating oil (such as WD-40) to the connection points of the chair rods (such as the connection between the gas lift and the chassis, and the pivot bearings), wait 5-10 minutes for the oil to penetrate, and then slowly rotate the chair to evenly distribute the lubricating oil. Be careful not to add too much oil to avoid oil stains on clothing, and regular (every 6-12 months) replenishment of lubrication is required.

Precautions: Before operation, turn off the lifting function of the chair's gas lift (if any) to avoid the danger of the chair suddenly lifting or lowering during adjustment; if the chair has been in use for more than 5 years or shows structural deformation, it is recommended to directly replace it with a new chair to ensure safety.
