Office Chair Return Disassembly

Admin October 11, 2026

The disassembly of an office chair for return can be carried out according to the following steps, with attention to operational specifications and safety precautions:

I. Disassembly of the Seat and Armrest Assembly

  1. Locate the Fixed Nut: Find the fixed nut at the connection point between the armrest bracket and the seat, usually located beneath or on the side of the armrest.
  2. Rotate the Fixed Screw: Use a tool (such as a screwdriver) to hold the fixed nut in place while rotating the fixed screw on the armrest until the screw is completely loosened.
  3. Separate the Assembly: Lift the entire seat and armrest assembly upwards to detach it from the armrest bracket. Be careful not to apply excessive force to avoid stripping the nut.

II. Individual Armrest Disassembly

  1. Remove the Screws of the Connecting Components: First, remove the fixed screws on the connecting components (such as metal brackets) between the armrest and the seat, usually requiring an Allen wrench.
  2. Separate the Armrest's Fixed Screws: According to the disassembly diagram, locate the fixed screws between the armrest and the connecting components (which may be located at the bottom or side of the armrest) and remove them one by one.
  3. Take Off the Armrest: Tilt the armrest to one side to completely separate it from the connecting components. Hold the armrest steady during operation to prevent it from falling and being damaged.

III. Seat Cushion Separation

  1. Locate the Fixed Nut: Find the fixed nut at the connection point between the seat cushion and the base frame, usually located at the center beneath the seat cushion.
  2. Unscrew the Seat Cushion: Hold the fixed nut in place and use a tool to rotate the seat cushion counterclockwise until it loosens and separates from the base frame. If the nut is rusted, a small amount of lubricant can be sprayed to assist in disassembly.

IV. Disassembly of the Pneumatic Rod and Five-Star Base

  1. Cut the Small Pin: Use pliers or scissors to cut the small pin on the pneumatic rod (located at the connection point between the pneumatic rod and the five-star base) to loosen the two.
  2. Separate the Pneumatic Rod: For an ordinary office chair, simply lift the pneumatic rod upwards to separate it; for a computer height-adjustable chair, turn the chair over and place it upside down. First, remove the base (tap along the bottom steel ring with a rubber mallet and then pry it open), then remove the upper seat (use a screwdriver to remove the screws), and finally, lightly tap the metal chassis with a hammer while stepping on the hydraulic rod with your foot to assist in separation. The disassembly of the hydraulic rod is relatively risky, and it is recommended to wear gloves during operation.

V. Wheel Disassembly

  1. Turn Over the Swivel Chair: Place the chair upside down so that the wheels are facing upwards.
  2. Loosen the Fixed Screws: Hold the fixed nut of the wheel in place and use a tool to rotate the fixed screw of the wheel until the screw is completely loosened.
  3. Take Off the Wheels: If the screw is rusted or the wheel is stuck, lightly tap the edge of the wheel with a hammer to loosen it, and then pull it out by hand. Avoid directly tapping the center of the wheel to prevent damage to the wheel axle.

Precautions

  1. Protection of Fixed Nuts: Pay close attention to the position of the nuts during the disassembly process to avoid deformation or stripping of the nuts due to improper force application.
  2. Safety Precautions: When operating tools such as hydraulic rods and hammers, wear gloves to prevent injury to hands and feet or scratches on the surface of the chair.
  3. Component Organization: After disassembly, place the various components in categories and keep all small parts such as screws and nuts for subsequent assembly or return inspection.
  4. Professional Assistance: If you are unsure about a certain step (such as the disassembly of the hydraulic rod), it is recommended to contact after-sales service or a professional for operation to avoid damaging the chair or causing personal injury.
