Office Chair Replacement Tray
Admin October 09, 2026
The replacement of the tray for an office chair can be carried out according to the following steps:

I. Preparation
- Tool Preparation: Prepare a Phillips/flat-head screwdriver, a rubber or plastic hammer, an adjustable or open-end wrench, and a cloth. If the screws are rusty, have a loosening agent (such as WD-40) or rust remover on hand.
- Component Selection and Verification: Measure the hole spacing of the old tray (the center distance between the screw holes for securing the chair seat, commonly such as 14cmร17.5cm) and the diameter of the central hole (the hole diameter connecting to the gas lift). Take a clear photo of the old tray (including the screw hole positions and the central hole), and consult the merchant with the data to confirm the compatibility of the new tray. Prioritize selecting a reinforced tray made of steel with a thickness of โฅ3.0mm to ensure load-bearing capacity and durability.
- Safety and Environmental Preparation: Clear a flat and spacious work area, and lay a soft pad (such as cardboard or an old towel) on the ground. Wear labor protection gloves during operation, and adjust the gas lift of the chair to the lowest position and keep it in a non-lifting state to avoid accidental triggering.
II. Disassembly Steps
- Flip the Chair and Remove the Five-Star Base (Wheels): Turn the chair upside down on the soft pad and directly pull up the casters on the five-star base with force.
- Separate the Five-Star Base from the Gas Lift: Use a rubber hammer to evenly strike the connection point between the central steel ring of the five-star base and the gas lift. After striking, try to pry the five-star base to loosen it. Repeat the "strike-pry" process until the two are separated.
- Remove the Screws Securing the Chair Seat to the Tray: Use a screwdriver to remove the 4 screws connecting the chair seat to the tray, and keep the screws properly to prevent loss.
- Separate the Gas Lift from the Old Tray: Raise the gas lift to the highest position. Use a rubber hammer to evenly strike around the steel ring connecting the base to the gas lift, while using your hands to pry up and down or stepping on it to assist in separating the two (this process may take a few minutes).
III. Installation of the New Tray
- Install the Tray and the Seat Cushion: Align the new tray with the reserved holes on the seat cushion, fix it with 4 short and thin screws, and tighten them sequentially with a wrench.
- Install Other Components:
- Gas Lift and Back Rod: Insert the gas lift into the tray, align the back rod with the hole on the backrest, and fix the back rod with 3 long and thin screws. Tighten the screws and turn the knob.
- Armrests: Place the sleeve into the armrest hole, position the armrest on one side of the chair body, and fix it to the seat cushion and the backrest with 2 long and thick screws respectively. Tighten the screws and then snap on the end caps. Repeat the operation on the other side.
