Replacement Casters for Office Chairs

To replace the casters on an office chair, first remove the old casters and then install the new ones. It is recommended to use 3-inch PU swivel casters.

I. Removing Old Casters
Choose the appropriate removal method based on the caster's fixing method:

1. Screw-fixed type: Use a screwdriver or wrench to turn the fixing screws counterclockwise. Some screws may be rusted due to long-term use, and a small amount of lubricant can be sprayed to assist in removal.
2. Stem-fixed type: Pull the wheel straight up vertically. If it is difficult to pull out due to excessive friction, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the wheel and the chair leg, and gently tap the plastic clip part to loosen it; or use pliers to grip the bottom of the stem and tap the edge of the chair leg lightly with a hammer to separate the wheel using vibration.

II. Installing New Casters

1. Selecting compatible casters: It is recommended to choose 3-inch (75mm) PU wheels, which are soft and have a smooth surface, reducing movement noise and protecting floors (such as wooden floors and tiles); they have a load-bearing capacity of up to 45 kilograms, meeting the needs of ordinary office chairs.
2. Confirming specification match: Check that the wheel type is SWIVEL (swivel caster), the insertion type is stem mount, and the universal stem size is 7/16 inch (11mm) x 7/8 inch (22mm), matching the original chair leg hole.
3. Installation operation: Align the metal fork of the new wheel with the hole in the chair leg and press down vertically with force. When you hear a 'click' sound or feel that the wheel is stable and does not wobble, the installation is complete. If the hole is tight, you can rotate the wheel slightly to assist in insertion.

III. Precautions

1. Before removal, observe the wear condition of the old casters. If the chair leg hole is deformed or the caster stem is bent, replace the chair leg or contact after-sales service simultaneously.
2. After installation, test the rotation flexibility of the casters to ensure that the swivel casters can rotate 360° without jamming.
3. Regularly clean the hair and dust on the surface of the casters to prevent foreign objects from getting stuck and affecting use.
