Office Chair Repair Tapping

Admin October 22, 2026

When encountering tapping issues during office chair repair, appropriate repair methods can be selected based on the degree of damage. Common methods include using a drill bit to retap, using a tapping hole repairer, replacing the tapping part, and injecting thread locker or using a wire thread insert if the screw hole is stripped.

If the tapping hole itself is of good quality and only the internal threads are damaged, a drill bit can be used to retap. First, use a drill bit of the appropriate size to grind away the damaged threads. Ensure that the drill bit matches the diameter of the original tapping hole to avoid excessive enlargement. After grinding, select an appropriate tapping tool and control the depth and force of tapping based on the taper and torque of the tapping. During the tapping process, maintain a uniform rotational speed to avoid excessive force that could damage the tapping tool or cause another tapping fracture.

When the tapping hole is severely damaged, using a tapping hole repairer is a good choice. A tapping hole repairer is a tool specifically designed to repair damaged threads. When using it, select a repairer of the appropriate size based on the diameter of the tapping hole. Install the repairer into the damaged tapping hole and follow the operating instructions. It can restore the tapping hole to standard specifications and recover its original connection function.

If the tapping hole is extremely damaged and cannot be repaired by the above methods, the tapping part needs to be replaced. First, carefully disassemble the damaged tapping part to avoid secondary damage to other components of the office chair. Then, select a matching new tapping part based on the specifications and model of the original tapping part for replacement, ensuring that the new tapping part can work well with other components of the office chair.

In addition, if the screw hole of the office chair is stripped, a small amount of thread locker, such as anaerobic adhesive, can be injected, and then the screw can be screwed in. After the adhesive cures, it forms a strong fixation, enhancing the connection strength between the screw and the screw hole. Alternatively, a wire thread insert can be considered. It is embedded into the damaged or reinforced threaded hole using a special installation tool, forming an internal thread made of high-strength stainless steel wire. It not only repairs the damage but also improves the connection strength, extends the service life, and has anti-loosening and anti-vibration effects.
