Office Chair Repair - Recline

Admin October 12, 2026

If the recline function of your office chair is malfunctioning or stuck, you can try the following repair methods:

First, check if the recline function of the chair is locked. Some office chairs are equipped with a locking mechanism. If it is in the locked state, the recline function will not work. In this case, find the button located under or on the side of the chair, pull it outward, and then lean the backrest backward to unlock the recline function.

Second, pay attention to the backrest adjustment handle under the chair. This handle is usually used to adjust the backrest angle or resolve the issue of the recline being locked. If the recline is locked, try pushing the handle in and observe if the recline function can be restored. If the recline fails due to a damaged spring, the support frame needs to be replaced. To adjust the backrest angle, press and hold the handle while applying backward pressure with your back, and then release it when you reach the desired angle.

Third, use the adjustment lever at the back under the seat. While sitting on the chair, locate this lever and move it while applying a slight backward pressure with your back, and then release the lever to fix the angle. If you want to return the backrest to an upright position, move the lever again and apply a bit of pressure with your back, and the backrest will spring back.

In addition, check the state of the control lever. Ensure that the control lever is in the unlocked position (pulled outward). If it is in the locked state, the recline function will not work. If the chair has an adjustment lever, you can first recline the chair and then reset the lever to lock it. To return it to an upright position, simply move the adjustment lever.

Finally, if none of the above methods work and the chair is still within the warranty period (a good computer chair can have a warranty period of up to three to five years), you can contact the merchant or manufacturer from whom you purchased the chair and request phone-based repair guidance. If phone guidance is not possible due to technical or tool limitations, the cost of sending the chair back for repair is usually borne by the merchant or manufacturer. This situation is generally related to a chassis problem and needs to be addressed promptly to avoid affecting usage.
