Office Chair Repair for Broken Parts

Admin October 10, 2026

Repairing a broken office chair requires selecting the appropriate method based on the location and extent of the break. Here are the common parts and repair steps:

Broken Chair Leg If the break is in the chair leg, determine whether it is a damaged caster or a complete break of the five-star base.

  • Replacing Casters: Identify the type of caster (threaded or plug-in). For threaded casters, turn counterclockwise to remove the old one and clockwise to install the new one. For plug-in casters, pinch the caster with both hands, press down and rotate left and right to pull it out, then insert the new one vertically until you hear a 'click'. Ensure the new caster matches the original in model, size, and load capacity.
  • Replacing the Five-Star Base: If the five-star base is broken or deformed, first remove the old one. For flat washer and snap ring types, remove the snap ring and then pull out the five-star base. For tapered press-fit types, gently tap the connection with a rubber mallet to loosen it and then remove it. When purchasing a new five-star base, ensure it matches the center post and install it securely.

Broken Solid Wood Chair Leg Repairing a broken solid wood chair leg involves gluing, filling, sanding, and coloring. The steps are as follows:

  1. Clean the Joint: Remove excess wood shavings from the break to ensure a precise fit without misalignment.
  2. Glue and Fix: Mix epoxy glue (ratio 1:1) and apply it to the broken surfaces. Use a clamp to hold it in place and maintain pressure until the glue is partially cured.
  3. Fill the Gap: Fill the gap with wood powder and press it down firmly. Pour in 502 glue and sand it. If the surface is uneven, first scrape it flat with a blade, then sand it with coarse sandpaper. Pay special attention to corners to avoid missed spots or pits.
  4. Overall Sanding: Switch to fine sandpaper and sand until the surface is smooth. Polish with a polishing compound.
  5. Color Matching and Painting: Use white as the base color and add a small amount of yellow essence and black-brown to adjust the color. Once close, add a gloss enhancer. For light-colored furniture, directly dot the wound and gradually blend it outwards evenly. During this process, lightly sand with fine sandpaper to make the color even, and finally cover the sanding marks with a topcoat.
  6. Draw the Grain: Use the tip of a pen to dot the main grain, use a brush to scatter and create fine grains with a light touch, and finally adjust the gloss with a matte paint finish blender.

Broken Computer Chair Backrest Repairing a broken computer chair backrest involves reinforcing the connection. The steps are as follows:

  1. Glue the Break: Apply AB glue (ratio 50:50) or metal epoxy to the broken surfaces and wait 10 minutes for it to dry.
  2. Install the Connector Plate: Use a 92mm 304 stainless steel connector plate to measure the position and mark the drilling points (two holes on each side). Use a cordless drill or soldering iron to drill the holes.
  3. Secure the Connector Plate: Tighten the flat-head screws M5. If the position is off, use stainless steel zip ties to tighten it and pull them tight with pliers.
  4. Side Reinforcement: Tighten the stainless steel zip ties on the side of the break to ensure even force distribution.
  5. Restore Aesthetics: Reinstall the accessories and cover the repaired part with carbon fiber stickers.
