Office Chair Repair and Reuse

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair repair and reuse can be achieved through various methods, which not only extend their service life but also significantly save costs.

1. Repair and Refurbishment: Restore Function and Appearance
For common issues such as damaged seat surfaces and loose frames, repairs can be carried out through methods such as paint touch-ups and reinforcement, leather surface refurbishment, and component replacement. For example, the Xiaogan Municipal Government Affairs Service Center repaired 178 pieces of furniture (including office chairs) using methods such as paint touch-ups, frame reinforcement, and replacement of damaged parts, with an estimated savings of 100,000 yuan in fiscal funds. Such repairs require selecting appropriate methods based on the extent of damage: if the seat leather is cracked, it can be replaced with the same material; if the metal frame is rusted, it needs to be derusted and repainted; if the screws are loose, they need to be tightened and supplemented with anti-loosening glue. Repair tools typically include screwdrivers, wrenches, sandpaper, spray paint cans, etc., and the operation is relatively simple, suitable for non-professionals.

2. Self-Repair: Engage Employees
The Mazhizhi Management Office formed a 'repair team' and encouraged employees to repair office chairs during their spare time. Specific measures include learning repair tutorials online to master basic skills; purchasing low-cost parts (such as seat fabric, screws, casters); using tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches to reinforce frames, replace damaged parts, and reupholster some chairs. This model not only reduces repair costs but also enhances employees' hands-on skills and cost-saving awareness, making it suitable for units with limited budgets and certain hands-on capabilities.

3. Special Initiatives: Centralized Repair of Waste Resources
The second Party branch of the Repair and Maintenance Center of the Rail Operation Company organized party members to carry out a special initiative for repairing and reusing waste resources, focusing on the centralized repair of waste office chairs. By inspecting the structural integrity of the chairs, replacing broken parts, repairing casters, and reinforcing connections, they successfully repaired 33 waste office chairs, saving approximately 6,900 yuan in costs. Such initiatives require establishing a standardized process: first, classify and count the types of damage, then assign repair tasks, and finally inspect the repair results to ensure quality and efficiency.

The core value of repair and reuse lies in resource recycling and cost optimization. Through targeted repairs, self-participation, or special initiatives, units can significantly reduce expenditures on new chair purchases while reducing waste generation, aligning with the concept of green office practices. In practical operations, comprehensive decisions should be made based on the extent of damage, repair costs, and usage needs, prioritizing the repair of chairs with restorable functions and considering scrapping those that are severely damaged and have high repair costs.
