Office Chair Repair and Refurbishment

Admin October 10, 2026

The method for repairing and refurbishing office chairs should be selected based on the type of chair and the extent of damage. Common repair methods include repairing ordinary chairs, repairing leather executive chairs, repairing tilting office chairs, and overall refurbishment. The specific operations are as follows:

1. Repairing Ordinary Chairs
If the chair is made of wood and has deformation or breakage issues, the chair should first be disassembled. The deformed parts should be straightened through physical compression or steam heating, and the broken wood should be fixed with wood glue or metal connectors before replacement. After reassembly, surface treatment is required: sand the surface smooth, then use shellac or Myanmar-colored water-based stain for coloring, and finally apply varnish or wood wax oil for surface protection. This method is suitable for chairs with wooden frame damage but intact structure. After repair, ensure that all components are firmly connected to prevent loosening again.

2. Repairing Leather Executive Chairs
Common issues with leather seats include surface wear or scratches. To repair, first clean the damaged area with a multi-purpose cleaner to remove stains and old conditioners; for minor wear on the back, fill the scratches with leather repair paste, sand it smooth after drying, and finally apply leather dye close to the original color for touch-up. If the damage is severe, cut a leather patch of the same color, glue it with special adhesive, and sew the edges. After repair, regularly use leather conditioner for maintenance to prevent cracking or fading.

3. Repairing Tilting Office Chairs
If the chair tilts to one side, first check if the wheels are level: observe the contact between each wheel foot and the ground. If the wheel feet are bent or deformed, replace them with matching new wheels. The specific steps are: remove the old casters, apply a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) to the chair base socket, use a rubber mallet to vertically tap the new casters into the socket, ensure they are firmly installed, and then test the chair's stability. If the wheels are not the issue, check if the seat plate is damaged. If the seat plate is deformed or the connectors are loose, disassemble the seat plate and replace the damaged parts, then reassemble and adjust the balance.

4. Overall Refurbishment of Office Chairs
For chairs that are outdated in appearance but structurally intact, an overall refurbishment can be carried out: first remove the backrest panel and seat cushion, spray the metal support rods (such as the chair back frame) with silver spray paint, and after the paint dries, re-cover the seat cushion and backrest with leather or fabric. Ensure that the material is flat and wrinkle-free during covering, and secure the edges with rivets or stitches. Finally, assemble all components and check if the chair functions properly (such as lifting and rotating) to ensure that the refurbished chair is both aesthetically pleasing and practical.
