Office Chair Repair

Admin October 09, 2026

The repair method for an office chair should be selected based on the specific problem. Here are some common faults and their handling methods:

I. Repair of the Backrest Gliding Mechanism of the Sihoo C500 Second-Generation Deluxe Chair

If the backrest cannot glide normally, the rear cover needs to be removed for inspection. Operation Steps:

  1. Remove the Rear Cover: Use your fingers or a tool to pry open the lower edge of the rear cover, ensuring even force to avoid damaging the clips.
  2. Remove the Screws: After removing the rear cover, you will see five fixing screws inside. Use a screwdriver of the corresponding size to unscrew them one by one and keep them safe.
  3. Detach the Aluminum Alloy Cup Holder: After removing the screws, the aluminum alloy cup holder can be removed as a whole. At this point, you can check whether the internal slide rails, springs, and other components are worn or stuck. Replace the parts or clean any debris and reassemble if necessary.

II. Fixing an Office Chair That Leans to One Side

A chair that leans is often caused by damaged wheels or poor contact with the base, requiring step-by-step troubleshooting:

  1. Check Wheel Contact:
    • Place the chair upright or upside down and observe whether each wheel foot makes even contact with the ground. If there is any suspension, adjust the position or check the flatness of the ground.
    • After inverting the chair, check for any cracks, deformations, or signs of wear on the wheel feet. If damaged, purchase wheels of the same model for replacement.
  2. Remove the Old Wheels:
    • Most wheels can be pulled out by hand. If stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the small gap between the wheel foot and the chair as a lever to pry it out. For a few wheels fixed with screws, use a screwdriver to loosen the screws before removal.
  3. Lubricate and Install:
    • Spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) onto each socket on the chair base. If unavailable, apply petroleum jelly to the wheel axles.
    • Use a rubber mallet to tap the new wheels vertically into the sockets. After ensuring they are firmly installed, invert the chair to test if it still leans. If the problem persists, further inspect whether the seat plate is deformed.

III. Fixing a Sinking Office Chair

If the chair height cannot be fixed, it is often due to a failed gas cylinder. This can be resolved through temporary or permanent solutions:

  1. Temporary Fix Using a Hose Clamp:
    • Slide down the plastic skirt at the bottom of the chair. If it covers the gas cylinder, remove it first. Adjust the chair to the desired height.
    • Wrap a hose clamp around the gas cylinder. If the clamp tends to slip, increase friction by wrapping rubber bands, tape, or sanding the surface of the gas cylinder. Tighten the clamp and test the height. If inaccurate, adjust the position of the clamp. If necessary, use rubber strips to secure the clamp and prevent sliding.
  2. Permanent Fix Using a PVC Pipe:
    • Measure the diameter and length of the gas cylinder and purchase a slightly larger PVC pipe (ensuring it can fit over the cylinder).
    • Use a saw to cut a longitudinal slit in the PVC pipe so that it can wrap around the cylinder. After placing the pipe over the cylinder, the chair height will be fixed. This method is suitable for scenarios where the gas cylinder has completely failed and height adjustment is no longer required.
