Office Chair Renovation and Repair

Admin October 10, 2026

Office chair renovation and repair require targeted methods based on the type of damage. Here are the specific steps:

I. Repairing an Office Chair Leaning to One Side
If the chair leans to one side, troubleshoot the cause step by step. First, place the chair upright and upside down to observe whether the wheels have uneven contact due to an uneven floor, ensuring each wheel foot makes full contact with the ground. If the floor is level but the wheels remain unstable, invert the chair to check for cracks, deformation, or wear on the wheel feet. If the wheels are damaged, purchase a new wheel set that matches the original model for replacement, ensuring a secure installation. If the wheels are intact, further inspect the seat plate structure for cracks, deformation, or loose connectors, replacing the seat plate or reinforcing the connections as necessary.

II. Repairing Minor Leather Wear on the Back of an Executive Chair
For minor surface wear on the leather, start with cleaning. Spray a neutral multifunctional leather cleaner onto the worn area and gently scrub in a clockwise direction with a soft-bristled brush or clean cloth to remove surface dirt and oxidation. After cleaning, allow it to air dry naturally, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent leather hardening. If fine cracks appear on the worn area, apply a small amount of leather conditioner and massage it in with your fingertips until absorbed to enhance leather flexibility. During daily use, avoid contact with sharp objects and regularly wipe with a dedicated leather care oil to slow down aging.

III. Structural Repair and Cushion Replacement for Old Chairs

  1. Broken Leg Repair: If the chair legs or frame are cracked, fill the cracks with wood putty. Apply the putty evenly over the damaged area, slightly higher than the original surface, and let it dry completely (usually 24 hours). Then, sand it smooth with 400-grit sandpaper along the wood grain. Choose acrylic paint matching the original wood color and apply it in 2-3 thin coats, lightly sanding between coats. Finally, apply wood wax oil for protection and sand to a smooth finish.
  2. Cushion Replacement: If the original cushion fabric is aged or outdated, remove and retain the cushion core. Based on the cushion core size, purchase new fabric (durable canvas or suede is recommended) and cut it into a circle 5-8 cm larger in diameter than the cushion core. Sew a layer of PP cotton (about 1-2 cm thick) around the fabric edge, stitch along the edge, and pull tight to form a plump round cushion cover. Attach the back of the cushion cover to the cushion core with hot glue or snaps and reinstall it onto the chair frame.

During the repair process, ensure safety by wearing a mask when using sandpaper and keeping the chair stable when replacing wheels. If the damage exceeds your repair capabilities, consider contacting a professional furniture repair service.
