Removing Musty Smell from Office Chairs
Various methods can be employed to remove musty smells from office chairs, including ventilation, adsorption, wiping, using deodorizers, deep cleaning, mold prevention treatment, and air purification.

Powerful Ventilation: Move the office chair to a well-ventilated area such as a balcony or near a window, and open doors and windows to create air convection. If the weather is sunny, allow the chair to receive short-term sunlight exposure (avoid prolonged exposure for fabric or mesh chairs) to accelerate the volatilization of odor molecules using sunlight and wind.
Activated Carbon/Bamboo Charcoal Adsorption: Place activated carbon or bamboo charcoal packs around, beneath, or on the seat of the chair. Their porous structures effectively adsorb odor molecules, formaldehyde, and moisture in the air, thereby reducing musty smells.
Wiping with White Vinegar Solution: Dilute white vinegar or rice vinegar with water in a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2. Dip a soft towel into the diluted vinegar solution, wring it out until semi-dry, and wipe the surface of the seat (avoid allowing liquid to penetrate the interior). Acetic acid can neutralize some alkaline odors and has antibacterial properties. After wiping, use a clean towel dampened with water to wipe again and open windows for ventilation.
Using Professional Deodorizers: Choose commercially available car interior deodorizing sprays or fabric disinfecting and deodorizing agents, whose ingredients can decompose odor molecules. Before use, conduct a small-scale test in an inconspicuous corner of the chair to ensure it does not damage or stain the fabric, and then spray according to the instructions.
Deep Cleaning:
- Preparation: Prepare a vacuum cleaner, soft brush, clean towels, and appropriate cleaning agents (such as specialized fabric cleaners, neutral laundry detergents, or soapy water).
- Thorough Vacuuming: Use the vacuum cleaner to comprehensively clean dust, hair, and debris from the seat, backrest, armrests, and crevices. For mesh chairs, gently pat the edges to shake out dust.
- Cleaning Stains and Mold Spots: Wipe ordinary stains with diluted cleaning solution or soapy water; for mold spots or stubborn stains, spray with specialized mold removers or strong cleaners, gently scrub with a soft brush, and allow the cleaner to remain for half an hour to fully decompose mold spots.
- Removing Residues: After cleaning, allow the chair to dry naturally.
Using Furniture Mold Preventers: After cleaning and sterilization, use a spray bottle to adjust the furniture mold preventer to a mist state and spray it on all surfaces of the office chair (to a moist standard) to form a mold-preventive layer and prevent mold regrowth.
Using Desktop Air Purifiers: Devices such as the Airๅ ก KJ60F-P1 employ a dual purification scheme of adsorption and decomposition to quickly adsorb gaseous pollutants like musty smells and precisely decompose odor molecules.
